Dragon Ball Z: Season 9 Discussion

Post by DB_Fan1991 » Tue May 05, 2009 3:32 pm

This is it, the final season set, DBZ has finally gotten a consistent release in Region 1. People are getting their Pre-Order copies early, and discuss.

I got my copy ready to ship as soon as it's released.
It's been a fun ride with these season sets, and it's nice to have Dragonball Z in a nice, consistant release (one that spells out the series on my wall no less!). They look great on my HDTV, meaning rewatching these sets will be a treat. Overall for me, a great release from Funimation.

Oh, I know it sure was a fun ride getting these sets and to finally have the whole series on DVD at a cheap price to boot, sure people complain about the widescreen, but it's the exchange you make to get the English dub with the original music.

I guess I could see the widescreen bothering certain fans, but in all seriousness, I don't mind it, at all. Crucify me for this, but I like it, much better than stretching a 4:3 image on a new TV.

I considered pre-ordering this, but my local best buy has had the past couple season sets and movies double features a week early, so I'll just roll in there sometime soon and check it out.

That's easily solved by watching the show with bars on either side.

Eeeew. No thanks. I'd rather have it cropped any day.

Wow. I find it hard to believe that it's been so long, and yet so short, since the first box set came out. It's been fun, to say the least. One day, I will own them all, and I will be a very happy fanboy.

I've still got to buy Season 7! Though I'm expecting Season 8 all the way from god_of_chaos soon. I can't wait to see this third of DBZ, I missed it on Toonami.

My birthday's coming up soon though, with any luck I'll get enough money for DBZ Season 7 and 9, along with DBGT Season 2. Then I'll have the entire TV series from DB to GT. 8) I'll be one happy bastard.

I don't mind the auto-cropping either, it was made out to be a big deal at first, but for an Epic series like Dragon Ball Z, Widescreen does it justice. It's just nice to have DBZ from start to finish.

Once I get my set, I'll have the whole series in Orange Brick format...
Wow, it's kinda weird... About to finish the series...

As for the Widescreen, It's not THAT big of a deal. I understand the damaged master tape situation, that FUNi's ALWAYS been Cropping Z, just now they're cropping to 16:9 instead of 4:3. I don't like it, but they're really inexpensive, and I've yet to have my experience "Ruined" significantly by it, so I can live with it.
I just wish they'd taken the Care to Reframe the Cropped shots like Toei.

Geez, I'm a bit behind. I still need to get Season Eight. I think I can count on getting Nine as a gift, since it DOES actually hit stores officially on my birthday...

But yeah, dang. Entire series out in a few convenient, affordable packages. Not easy to do with a series as long as DBZ.

Vegetto Arrives! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNwMwNxyXIc&fmt=22

EDIT: I love the piece used when Vegetto appears, it's pretty...classically heroic?

Looking forward to getting more clips!

Spinal image complete, courtesy of a FUNI forums member whose name escapes me.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
That looks a bit weird... The background of the last set looks very out of place. I mean the black turtle symbol behind the dragon and logo that is.

It's probably because they're not squished together in a box set (like Funimation should have made) or by the other DVDs either side.

I think it looks fine.

So if Funi ever re-re-released the series, would anyone here buy it again? I'm not talking about a dub of Kai, but maybe this exact package except the footage is the DragonBox footage, with everything else the same. Any takers for a second (or third) go-round?

The dragon is centered but the symbol (not turtle symbol, btw) is zoomed in and to the side. I don't understand the reason for that.

Absolutely not. As good of quality the Dragon Box footage is, the season sets will do just fine. I may sell these off and get the Blu-Ray a couple of years after those are finished selling.

I will buy Season 9 this month, thus completing my Season sets collection. Next Mission: complete my Dragon Box singles collection! Do you have a new mission, anyone?
