Things you would improve in DBKai DVDs

Post by Vino » Sun May 17, 2009 11:02 am

Please move this to the Kai section.

Lets hope Wasted Wisher sees this.

1)

Those 3 shots, they look like they were made in Flash, and I would take the original any day, hell the speed lines could improve it, but they chose to remove them for some reason..

2)

Uncensored Raditz's/Goku's death.

3)

Fixed Nappa color as presented below:

4)

Put back the material that got caught, such as:

-Raditz's comment on Piccolo's makankosappo.

-Raditz's being scared that Gohan's power level is 710.

-Raditz's sensing another force when hes about to kill Goku.

-Krillin coming out from the house hole after he got snapped by Raditz's tail, with his comment, it doesn't make sense to see Krillin all injured in a hole, and a second later see him all okay.

-Goku's angle in episode 2. When Raditz kicked him, he was in pain ON the sand, but after the eyecatch, he was in the water.

-Cutting all the filler that is not needed, even Gregory, are you going for Toriyama cut or not?

Discuss.

UNCENSORED. Did anything say UNCENSORED? And I don't like the colors either, I'd want them more DBZ-esque.

I believe we heard that this is unlikely from Wasted Wisher. I don't mind it that much - Z is still Z; Kai is Kai. Sadly I view it as similar to the original Z Ocean dub - edited and censored. It's interesting to analyze what was cut and why, but Z is probably more enjoyable.

I don't know about you, but if I was a parent, I wouldn't want stuff I thought was offensive showing up in DVDs of things I thought was fine during the TV airing.

And apparently they didn't do Kai versions of the original frames, just the censored ones, as far as our inside source knows(which is somewhat fallible, must admit).

But it would suck majorly if they keep it censored in the DVDs...at least put some little blood in it or something to make the scene more powerful.

So far, the only violence censored is the hole itself. Wait till we see another wound.

Whenever I think about what would make Dragonball Kai better, it's all got to do with making it more like the original Z episodes, or completely re-animating the series.

The only reason I would ever purchase Kai is to have copies of the new opening and ending animation.

The first thing I would improve for a DVD release of Kai would be to change the audio to a 5.1 surround sound audio track (just in case the BGM release falls through on us).

I don't think this show will ever be on DVD. I mean it's possible but... :?

It seems to be tailor made for Blue-Ray, and with such a low episode count I can see them putting one saga per disc. But to answer the question, I don't think the'll do anything different when they release this (on whatever format). I think what's done is done. But then again... the way they did Kai, it would be so much easier to fix anything now. Well, this was a messy rant...

From what I gather, Kai is a censored version of Z. They made one set of prints (digital tape/whatever) of Kai, and that's the "censored" version. It's not like they made an uncensored Kai, then started painting over blood and dicks for TV broadcast.

I think they just had to censor it with all the crap happening. Kids playing games and killing people, Pokemon being regarded as Satanic. I don't think they would want some kind of backlash from "concerned" grumpy old parents who have probably never been touched (even by themselves) in years.

Wow, it does look like Flash! Some "remastering"...

Anyway, make it uncensored and with the original music and it might be passable.
If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.

We've known for months a lot of the footage being used was being digitally traced.

Yeah, even if Kai is released on DVD/Blu-Ray/whatever (it might not), I highly doubt it would be an uncensored version. Remember, this is Toei, NOT FUNIMATION.

That's funny. it's been stated many times in censorship discussions that censored anime in Japan normally gets uncensored DVD releases in Japan.

Why would Kai be any different?

Weren't you the one who said you weren't gonna watch it anymore?

Wasted Wisher has stated a number of times that they're not re-animating the scenes in an uncensored fashion, if I'm not mistaken. So why is this still an issue?
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Maybe the reason it was reanimated at all was to censor it. We could easily just get, like most other scenes in Kai, a cropped version of the DBZ footage for the DVD.

While I think that's an interesting idea, I doubt it. They're at least re-coloring each scene, if not completely re-animating it. However, I'd be happy if on the DVD we saw simply recolored frames. Don't think that's been asked before, if they save recolored frames then censor.
