I believe Kuso is literally refering to shit, crap, poop, ect. I don't understand why fansubbers translate it to damn though, maybe everyone yelling "shit!" all the time seems weird to them.
EDIT: I know a curse word, "Chikusho", it always appears in the Japanese manga, I think means damn it, I forgot.

It literally means "bastard," but is often used in situations where it would have to be translated as "damn it" in English. (for example, a character might say "chikusho" in reference to a situation, and not a person)Chibi Mystic Gohan wrote:EDIT: I know a curse word, "Chikusho", it always appears in the Japanese manga, I think means damn it, I forgot.
"Kuso" does literally mean "shit," "excrement," etc. And you're right, it's often translated as damn because it's obscure for an English speaking person to yell "shit" at minor situations. Basically, the word "kuso" in Japan is about on par with the word "damn" in America as far as obscenities go.I believe Kuso is literally refering to shit, crap, poop, ect. I don't understand why fansubbers translate it to damn though, maybe everyone yelling "shit!" all the time seems weird to them.
But each of those expressions has a literal translation which does not mean "fuck." Kuso = shit, kusotare = asshole, chikusho = bastard, shimatta = oh no/damn it, etc. It's true enough that you can translate "fuck" into Japanese using any of the above examples, but what I'm saying is that you can't translate the word "fuck" out of Japanese (unless you wanted to stretch the meaning of a different word to make it harsher than it really is).Every form of fuck can be expressed in Japanese, only the different phrases will have no connection to each other.
My bad...Uh, okay...I'm not looking for direct translation, just a word that's considered as rude and vulgar as English "fuck".
aside from the ones up there, you can also use "yatsu" (which liteally means "guy" but can be considered very vulgar in certain situations).

Ahhh, I see, thanks. I was wondering what it translated to exactly when Goten shouts "Chikusho, chikusho, chikusho Majin Buu!" after he steps on the Chi-Chi egg, and saw it as "damn it" in the translated manga, but I wasn't sure, 'cause those fan translators..."Renzoku shine shine misairu" AKA "Rapid "fuck you fuck you" missiles"DBW wrote:It literally means "bastard," but is often used in situations where it would have to be translated as "damn it" in English. That's funny because "tchin tchin" in French means "cheers" (or whatever English-speaking people say when they raise their glasses before drinking) and friends of mine told me they upset some people when they were in Japan because they said "tchin tchin" in a restaurant and, well there was a little misunderstanding...NeverRamza wrote:Here's a nice copy and paste of something I saved off a board a long while ago...

Also: "chimpo" = "baby-sized penis"

Actually, there was an episode of "Insomniac" where Dave Attell was in Japan and he said "Chinchin" as a toast in every bar he went to, thinking it meant cheers. No one was offended, people just thought it was funny.LaRésistance wrote:That's funny because "tchin tchin" in French means "cheers" (or whatever English-speaking people say when they raise their glasses before drinking) and friends of mine told me they upset some people when they were in Japan because they said "tchin tchin" in a restaurant and, well there was a little misunderstanding...NeverRamza wrote:Here's a nice copy and paste of something I saved off a board a long while ago...

Well, literally, it's "[something] (unfortunately) has happened," but you get the idea.Jerseymilk wrote:That's "shi matta", and it pretty much means "damn it" as far as I know.Sun_Wukong wrote:Whats that one, its like Shibata, or something.

"Ku(t)tabare!" literally means "drop dead!" But it can also (figuratively) mean "go to hell, or "fuck you" or "shove it" depending on the circumstances.El_Diablo wrote:What does "Kuttabachi" mean?
Someone on another board said it meant F*ck
