Anyhow, I was expecting something far worse, so not as bad as I thought; even so, still not all too great.

Normally I don't mind the wide screen but GODDAMN it Toei... why did you have to make this one scene so... so... 4:3?
This also makes me wonder how this scene will be done in Kai, if the series goes beyond Freeza.

I wonder if they'd consider doing a panning shot?
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Not sure if they're too lazy to do it, but what if they just redrew those few frames in 16:9? Totally doable with only a few drawings to do...though I'm not sure how good they're drawing *cough*tracing*cough* would go with this.

That doesn't look too bad. I wonder how they're going to handle that shot for Kai.

It is impossible to do this shot in wide screen and expect everything to be alright. Even in Kai it would look horrible. It would either look like this, or more of the bottom would be cut off to accommodate Trunks and Supreme Kai, OR more of Trunks, Vegeta, and Supreme Kai would be cut off to make more room for Gohan, Piccolo, and Dende.
And if that shot is really from Season 9, then wow... They really abandoned the super color desaturation haven't they?

They could extend it though.

In Kai, that will PROBABLY be like Son and Piccolo running at Raditz. Just completely Redraw the scene and in the redrawing process reframe it entirely.
They could also Crop it as-is but when they reframe they have it pan down.
I mean, I know everyone Hates Kai, but don't bash it for something it most likely won't be doing.

I was under the impression that most people liked Kai. Anyways.
The only thing that truly, truly, more than anything gets to me is that for the very last set, they didn't put in any spectacular extra features. I mean you could put in a million things, but no, nothing. The entire series is complete and you wouldn't know it by the hype or extras that are involved in this release.
You'd think that at least for the very last set, they could have gone back and dubbed Cha-La, the weird song at the end of the first half of the series, We Gotta Power, and Angel. You'd think. But nope. And now the next time we will be getting a Dragon Ball related DVD release is God knows from now when they release Dragon Ball...if they ever do. And maybe the Season Sets on Blu-Ray. But for all intents and purposes, the Dragon Ball series has officially run its course on the market. That's a weird realization.

Nope, MOST everyone, with a few exceptions, take Kai as Toei personally going to each of their houses and kicking their Dogs...
Most everyone is actually just watching it now to "Watch the Trainwreck as it happens, just like FUNis season 3" to Paraphrase
I don't feel this way, I love the new Pacing in Kai, I'm just explaining how it's now cool to hate Kai.
Kai is the new GT

Why are you so offended that people don't care for Kai? It's okay for two people to not like the same thing. We're all Dragon Ball fans, after all.

Not offended, just stating it like it is

No, you're stating it like you
think it is. Stop sensationalizing everything.

What was so bad about Season 3? The disappearing lines? I've been watching through this set and every episode where the screen is shaking fast, the dark lines turn white and it looks awful. Other than that, I have no qualms with it. It actually looks better than seasons one and two other than the lines issue, which isn't THAT frequent.
...Well, there was one other oddity. During one of the episodes of SSJ Goku vs. Freeza, (with JP dialogue of course), the sound is really messed up for the first half of the episode-- there is a tremendous amount of distortion. After the eyecatch, the problem is resolved. (It's either episode 98 or 99). Can anyone else confirm this?

I thought DemonRin meant Season 3's original airing, in which Funi was releasing an insanely tiny amount of episodes per year, they had new voices, and they made a lot of stupid script choices.

I don't know exactly what it meant since I didn't say it, I was paraphrasing someone else's comment.

Not sure if this has been brought up, but did they do something to Justin Cook's Super Buu? Was there a filter over his voice originally? Maybe I'm going crazy, but I hear a lot more Justin Cook than I used to.
Edit: Went and checked. They definitely screwed with it...DAMN IT!!! Can't FUNi just leave it alone. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Interesting... does anyone have specific comparison clips?
