I think the matter with Son Goku vs Paikuhan goes totally wrong...... Son Goku have the power to destroy Cell during Cell Games, but decides to leave it to Gohan, then Son Goku sacrifices himself with teleporting Cell to Kai's planet, where he explodes..... You know what is happening to Saiyan which is almost dead?? I think the matter with totally dead Goku is the same, he is much stronger in Other World then he was during Cell games, so he can defeat Cell in hell with ease, but Paikuhan driven by his ego steps into the battle.......

Nobody mentions the Cell games, but it's always hell and Annyochi Budokai....

Yeah, but Goku was totally dead. His body was disintegrated in Cell's explosion.

Worst filler ever! If Piccolo cannot do anything against Cell why would Base Vegeta would be able to?
I think it is possible, actually.

Vegeta was driven by rage at that point- rage of losing his future son. As dragonball has already pointed out through the super saiyan legends, rage is an irrational emotion, but can extremely increase a warrior's will to fight. Rage tilts the advantage of a warrior in the field- at least that's how I see it.

I agree that it leaves a bigger impact in the manga version where Vegeta fires the blast alone, because it gives the impression that our cold-hearted and ruthless prince had, indeed, changed.

But I also think that the rest of the Z-fighters would try to help Gohan, no matter how futile their efforts seemed, because thay had lost a precious warrior in the group. So the filler version is actually more logical, but I have nothing against the manga version either.
However I'm happy with the way everything turned out and i have no complaints. :D

Would any of you be happy if Vegeta had fired the first blast, and after that the rest joined in? If it happened that way, it still shows that Vegeta has changed, and it doesn't deny the rest of their limelight either.

I asked out of pure interest- not trying to change dbz or deny the creator's brilliant mind.

I'm new here, by the way-nice to see you

I, like some others here, feel that all Z fighters jumping in against Cell is one of the best parts of filler in the DBZ anime and it should have been in the manga, period. Whether Vegeta chose to help Gohan by himself or by seeing the other fighters go ahead first doesn't make much difference to Vegeta's character in the end anyway, but it does add a great moment for all the other characters and gives them relevance at a late point in the series, something we rarely see in late-DBZ. Just my two cents.

TBH, I like most of the filler in DB-DBZ and am not too strict like 'Oh, but that's filler, that never really happened'. I see filler as bonus material that adds to the original story and in DB-DBZ's case filler scenes usually flesh out the lesser characters a bit more and that's a thing I greatly appreciate.

It was already made clear that Goku couldn't beat Cell. He only fought Cell so Gohan knew how Cell fought.

But for the record, Goku beat Pikkon with his smarts. Pikkon overused the thunder flash and Goku finally saw the weak spot and hit him with an unexpected Kamehameha, and since Pikkon was close to the edge of the ring, he got knocked out of it. Also, Goku and Pikkon weren't evenly matched. Pikkon controlled the majority of the fight.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

If there was filler I would have in the original manga, it would have to be; the driving lessons, Paikuhan and Goku teaming up to get rid of Freeza and Cell in Hell; and I might be the only one who thinks this, but the story of the Saiya-jin taking over Planet Plant (except with an accurate end). If that was the story where the meteor killed the planet.
