Yeah, but I think MCDaveG was referring to the audio on the R2's being better quality that FUNimation's copies. Which is true, though I'm sure the audio has improved as the seasons have progressed due to being less aged.

Not like it matters very much.

Either way, it's mono sound and would be almost intolerable if not for the tremendous quality of the voice acting.

There's really no way to spin this. It sounds terrible, and it always will. We'll have to just deal with it or accept Kai as a suitable replacement... (I don't).

Or stop bitching and realise that you're watching a show which is about 20 years old now. Yes, the audio quality sucks, big suprise, it's not intolerable, I've been watching Funi's Japanese audio track for years, and guess how many problems I've had with it.
None.
The DragonBox's audio isn't that much of an improvement, just sounds a little clearer that's all. It's not as if the quality suddenly boosts to 5.1 Digital Dolby on the DragonBox. I guess it's because the show is old.

Maybe it is just me...

But the quality of the Japanese track seems better on the DB DVDs than on these season sets.

Going through DB right now so I know what the quality sounds like...normally I have volume turned up a bit but for the DBZ Season sets I have to turn the volume up a lot higher.

I'm glad we agree. I'll just assume the rest of your post is applauding me for my keen observation skills. Thanks.

That's also one of the reasons I love Kai.

It's Actually STEREO!!

Glorious.
That's one part about Kai NOBODY can argue isn't an improvement Over Z.
The Audio is mixed in Stereo, and sounds wonderful (NOT talking about whether you like the Music or the new Voice acting, talking SOLELY about Mixing and Stereo Vs Mono)

He's even taller than Ox King in that form.

I agree with your comment.

The Orange Brick is encoded at 96kbps compared to the Dragon Box 384kbps. Even in mono, there is a difference in fidelity. But, the difference is very minute, it just sounds louder to put in plain English.

Of course, either way you look at it. The cartoon is very old, unless they recreate the audio mix from scratch, we will all have to deal with Mono for the Japanese track. At least I have the original BGM on original CDs'. Kai's new music sounds too much like a video game for my tastes. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Yeah, but whatever you think about the Music aside, Kai sounds a lot better than Z in terms of pure Quality and Mixing.

What a surprise, Z is 20 years old and Kai is nowadays))))
Anyway, everybody here was bitching about, like I said, the sound on Dragon Box is better then on Funi. Yes, that sound is better, but that sound still isn't awesome because of its age...... My actual problem is with picture in older sagas sets and that cropping, Japanese sound track isn't problem for me

Not even sure if this comment should go here, but in regards to the DragonBall DVDs, I always wished FUNi would have put the Japanese track in stereo. Since FUNi used the original music and sound effects for their English dub (and mixed it in Stereo) I always figured they could just lift the Japanese dialogue and put it over that...with a little bit of clean up. That's just my 2 cents.

As far as Season 9 goes, I am so happy that it's all out now. I am curious how long until FUNi starts re-releasing them on Blu-ray-because you know they will (and from a business point, should).

They could probably only do that if they were given a separate voice track, as opposed to a pre-mixed track.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was an announcement soon.
Considering the entire series is out on regular DVD, They'll probably be shifting to Blu-Ray very soon.

I would say that by the end of the year, It'd be safe to think Season 1 on Blu-Ray will be out

I have been trying to find the moment this happens:
She and all the other residents of Penguin Village make an appearance in the second portion of the Dragon Ball series "Dragon Ball Z" during the Kid Buu Saga, giving their energy to Goku's Super Genki-Dama.
so i can make screen caps of it, but now i'm starting to think it's not on the dvds.
Is there someone who can confirm this scene?

I don't have Season Nine yet, but I do have the appropriate Kid Buu single DVD. I'll check for it later.
