CORRECTION.

80% of every piece of Dragonball Z animation ever. Be sure to put quotation marks on the word "remastered" when used in the context of the Season Sets to remind everyone that you do not approve of them. You know, in case people forget.

On subject, I will NOT be getting the faux-"remastered" bricks of Dragonball. I want the goods. I want the real deal.
How stupid of me. Thanks for the heads-up :P

The sad part is that you're actually right about some of the people here
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

It's back up now, When I clicked the link it just said that the page was not available. Maybe just too many people going on Walmart or they were updating something. Either that or it was my nutty internet connection.

After their GT DVD release, I have a hard time believe FUNi would make the Widescreen mistake again.

I think we should wait until we see more info, from some more reliable source before anyone starts giving FUNi the finger over this one.

If I remember correctly, Dragon Ball was always the series people used to say FUNi did OK (Even if they MASSIVELY screwed up Z...)

There's something wrong with FUNimation if they decide to crop the original Dragon Ball in Widescreen, while doing GT in Fullscreen.

That's bullshit, but I don't think its going to happen....

Geez, I leave my laptop at home until finals are over and this is what I find on the forums!

On one side, I'm glad that FUNi may be releasing the original DB on DVD again. Last time I checked, the prices for their 2-disc out of print saga sets were getting pretty out of hand. On the other side, though, I'm kinda just hoping that these DB releases just be full screen remastered versions of their 2-disc saga sets just so they won't end up screwing over the people who got all their other releases and have just been holding out for the first 13 episodes and movie 1 uncut.

Bah, Funimation, why can't you treat the DB franchise just like any of your other anime releases? Assuming that this listing will eventually end up being brick versions of the DB series, that'll just be one more inconsistency with my DB DVDs. Minus the "lost episodes," my GT singles are the only things that look consistent. Otherwise, I've got Z singles mixed in with steel cases and orange bricks... ugh.

I figured I better add my 2 cents into this discussion.

Now I am as disapointed as everyone else at way DBZ was treated but I can't complain cause 1 it is a continuous release from 1 to 291 in an affordable format for me (payed about 29 to 30 bucks a pop for these sets) 2 only way I've seen DBZ before I saw these sets was the edited for consumption TV dub so for me it's a way for me to see this in it's original format so like I said I can't complain to much.

now back to the topic, yes I was wondering when FUNi would get around to bricking DB, though I do hope they don't crop it but if they do I'll probably by it reguardless cause unlike most people I didn't get those 2dvd saga sets.

Same here. When I was younger I was an idiot and thought that the original Dragon Ball was far far inferior to the utter awesomeness that is Z, OMGDBZFTWROFLHAWT, and didn't care to pick up the 2-disc sets, but now I'm not so dumb and I want this. If its widescreen...I'll deal with it like I deal with Z, but I really want these in 4:3.

I'm pretty certain Funimation will release DB in 4:3 ratio. Ever since the Funimation's forum was flooded with angry mob because of their mistake on DBZ season sets, Funimation should learn this hard way. Seeing DBGT season sets come with 4:3, there's no reason why Funimation would scrap the idea of 4:3 for DB and go with widescreen.

Hey why not edit this topic into Dragonball in widescreen.

There is no point in doing that. I would like for this topic to stay open because we really don't know if DB will be put in widescreen or not. Therefore, there is no need to speculate which will lead into an argument that will go nowhere.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I think he meant as a FUNi 2-disc like what Madman released in Australia and New Zealand.
Where does it say this "Season 1" is not going to have the first 13 episodes? I know it's unlikely, but this kid is going off "IS ANYONE ELSE PISSED THEY WONT BE DOIN IT DFSKJDF" and it's unsettling.
Did I say the first 13 episodes won't be in season one?

No. Learn to read. I said "The Saga of Goku," meaning, the first saga set.

Calm the fuck down, and please refrain from calling me "kid."

Whoa whoa whoa, this is getting a little out of hand people. Lets just take a deep breath and stop all of this immaturity. This is the DaizEX board, where people come for mature discussions.

Lets get back on track and talk about the good things before we start going nuts on the possible negatives.

This may well be Dragon Ball in a consistent format, un-edited, with (to some) our original Japanese language track. Hell, with FUNi's more current releases, a good bit rate with less macro-blocking!

Yes! I hated all the macro-blocking with the old DBZ Singles! The final showdown between Cell and Gohan... That was very bad.

Whatever the case may be with these sets, I enjoyed the dub. Which to me will be the main point for purchase.

Wasn't the bit rate fine on the original saga sets? I had no complaints whatsoever, then again I'm not a videophile.

God! Macro-blocking!

That shit ruined Gohan vs. Cell. All the emotion and weight of the showdown? Gone!

Wait, what's macro-blocking?

From what I understand, it's when due to bad encoding or whatnot, sections of the footage appears to break up into a series of blocks during motion.

I was looking for the single set screencap of Gohan's Kamehameha (a great example of macroblocking), but it's gone missing. Oh well.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
EDIT:

Apparently it's been confirmed that the Walmart listing is erroneous:

WTK on the AnimeonDVD forums posted this a little while ago. The listing was fake, according to FUNi at AnimeNext.
