The DragonBoxes don't have subtitles?
Nope. Like nearly every other Japanese domestic release, they're in Japanese only. No subtitles, English or otherwise (not even a Japanese subtitle track).

Despicable! Will there ever be any perfect Dragon Ball release, not to say that the DragonBoxes were perfect before?

Rhetorical question.
Gohan: At least he doesn't have his sword out anymore.
Kuririn: Yeah, and your dad put his finger away too.

That'd be like faulting FUNimation for not putting an Urdu subtitle track on their discs, no?

True, but haven't English-speaking Americans been the second largest fan base of Dragon Ball even since the DragonBox releases? We deserve something every once and a while. I understand that the new special was subbed, but that's not enough for me.

You, along with everyone outside of Japan that doesn't speaking Japanese is not the concern of Toei. They are a Japanese company that serves the Japanese viewing public. That is why they license their material to companies like Funimation, so they can serve other markets. Subs aren't put on their DVDs because the Japanese viewing public has no need for them. I also hear they have a distaste for foreign language subs on their DVDs.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

By that token, doesn't that mean our releases should have Japanese subtitles? Besides, the DVD's are coded in a manner that (legally) we can't even play them in North America. The only reason Toei would add English subtitles would be if they perceived that enough people in Japan needed/wanted them.

Plus, I'm not 100% on this, but I don't think Toei subtitled the special either. I believe that was Jump. Plus, the DVD of that doesn't have any subtitles either, despite the subtitles obviously existing.

Raki nailed it. Though I don't think it's so much a distaste for foreign language subtitles as a minimalist approach to maximize the quality (hence the DragonBoxes having extremely high bitrates, along with most other R2 discs). Granted, subtitles don't do much to impact bitrates, the main thing is the fact that Japanese releases are meant for...well, the Japanese. Seriously, even if subtitles were on the DragonBoxes, how many people would import them? Probably not that many more than imported them without subtitles.

Way to not read any post in the entire thread at all.

Basically, the listing was erroneous and possibly fake. Many believe that FUNimation will not make this release widescreen because of the terrible outrage over the Z sets and the wishes of the more niche group of fans that will actually purchase the original Dragon Ball sets. On top of all that speculation, other listings on the page are obviously wrong as well, such as the "Size in Inches" of the DVD case, the language, and the two typos in the description of the product.

If there is a North American release, it will probably be of higher picture quality than the Australian releases (and I'm not talking about any remastering process, rather the absence of format conversion like NTSC to PAL)... But of course, that only matters if you're into that kind of stuff.

So...if Lionsgate has a renewal clause in the contract without a sunset provision, which would mean there is no definite answer, do you still blame FUNimation? Besides, if you really want to not be a freeloading asshole, you can buy the sets FUNi released via Madman in Australia. Or the DragonBoxes, but the Madman sets have subtitles and are less expensive.

Gotta love excuses people come up with. And please note I'm not gonna get into the "downloading debate," I just don't like Victator's tone. Especially since there is an affordable, English alternative.

I have spent more than enough on Dragonball merchandice in the last year. More than I care to admit in a public forum. They want to release it on dvd i will buy it, thats it. You got a problem with it, feel free to suck my balls.

Dude, stop being a pussy. If you're gonna steal the series, just man up and say it. Don't give me this "I've spent enough" bullshit. Good for you, I've spent a lot too. So have most of us. You think if you walk into a retailer and use that line that they'll just give you the goods for free? Shit, there are people here that have bought the exact same episodes/movies/etc as many as 3 or 4 times.

I honestly don't give a shit if you download the series. Truthfully. What annoys me, aside from typing like a 12 year old who thought he was a badass by stealing some of his mother's wine coolers and getting drunk, is your tone. You make it sound like you're entitled to the series.

Well fuck you. You're not entitled to shit. None of us are. I don't like FUNimation by any stretch, but they own the series here in North America. Don't like them? There's imports. Hell, love FUNimation but don't wanna spend too much money? Buy the damned Australian sets. It's there work and it's $182.70 shipped to your door for all of DragonBall. $1.19 an episode. Same price as the 'season sets' we're getting here nearly.

There's no excuse. Man up and stop being a pussy. This "well, they haven't released it so back to downloading I go" bullshit doesn't fly. It sounds vaguely reminiscent of the abusive dickhead who blames his girlfriend because he beat her up. Either admit that you just don't wanna pay or shut your mouth. And stop using insults from South Park, that shit was old 12 years ago.

<AbusiveDickheadX> I wouldn't hit her if she didn't make me.
vs.
<VictatorSupreme> I wouldn't download it if they didn't make me.

Yep, nothing alike. What was I thinking.

Besides, my whole point was he sounded like a tool by saying that in the first place. Not that Victator beats his girlfriend or whatever it's bound to be twisted into. I forget this is the same crowd that turned "Usunoro" being translated in a certain manner into a 3 page cluster-fuck.

Downloading a digital file off the Internet because you can't find the product that the file represents in stores... versus physically harming a woman because you have an anger issue.

You know what, fuck it. I don't care.

Oh Jesus...please, stop being an idiot. I didn't say he was being like an abusive boyfriend/husband/etc, I said the logic behind his excuse was vaguely similar to the logic behind their excuses (which should be blatantly obvious, since I spelled it out).

Can we get back on topic now? Please?

Go fuck yourself. Can't buy something thats not avaiable. I don't have to justify it. Do you understand you idiot? I did not say it hoping some imbecile gave his approval. I said it as a declarative statement. Do you know what the difference between a declarative statement and a question is? I'm going to spell it out for you idiot. I WANT TO OWN IT ON AN OFFICIAL DVD. I ALREADY HAVE ALL OF DBZ ON OFFICIAL DVDS. I WANT DRAGONBALL ON OFFICAL DVDS. I WILL GIVE THEM MONEY. I HAVE GIVEN THEM MONEY IN THE PAST. BUT UNTIL THAT DAY, I WILL SETTLE FOR LOWER QUALITY AVI FILES.

Do you get it moron? Was not looking for justification. Especially from a asshole like you.

Also really nice comparing domestic violence to downloading. Good to let everybody know your priorities.

My god, it was obviously meant to be a mildly humorous analogy. Glad to see you idiots have managed to ruin another thread.

I'll be seeing you in another one that won't get locked. <3

You're right. You caught me red-handed. I was, in fact, comparing piracy to domestic abuse directly. I believe that by downloading DragonBall you are causing Gen Fukunaga to beat his wife. I wasn't saying you were using flawed logic in your explanation, as you clearly have an incredibly wide array of wit and cognizance at your disposal and such things are simply not possible. You saw through me and I applaud you.

Also, you're right on another count. I made up Australia. You haven't been there right? No one has! It doesn't exist. Nor do their DVD's. I have, in fact, been bootlegging those DVD's singlehandedly and shipping them to members here thereby making them not an official product. For I am an evil genius, a "Madman" if you will (hence the fictitious company that I made up to sell said DVD's). As a matter of fact, I actually used my evil influence to make Wal-mart post the listing that started this thread.

In closing, I am an evil genius but I was no match for you. You have foiled my plot, and now I retreat to plan my revenge.

Sorry not trusting my credit info to a company in Australia.* Too much could go wrong. The only online retailer I trust is Amazon. Thats not even getting into the fact the dvds would not play on all dvd players. Its not unreasonable to want an official dvd release in your own country. If I find a way to download it I'm going to. Funimation must not care, they are the ones who let the old dvds go out of print. If they put it on dvd, I'll buy it.

I see you backtracked for several paragraphs. Hiding behind really shitty sarcasam. Guess you're the pussy after all.

* Oh BTW to Fuinimation there is no difference between buying the series from Madman or downloading it. They will not see a dime either way.

I really was not trying to shove it in anyones face. I have been wanting Dragonball on dvd for a very long time. I have hunted down what old sets I could afford. I had actually looked into buying the Madman sets but a combination of not finding a reliable retailer and shipping made me decide against it. About a month or so ago after watching the Tenshinhan saga I bought from Amazon, I finally decided to download the series and hope for a real release. So I was very disappointed at another fake out of official season sets. If I were just downloading my wallet would be far better off.
