It appears the single releases Box-art for the TV specials are up too...and I don't believe in coincidences.

Oh wow. Oh wowowowow. Looks like FUNi can't deny the DB set anymore. Let's hope the "Remastering" is in the same vein as GT's instead of Z's.

But I wonder what's up with the Bardock/Trunks re-re-releases. If they're going through the movies again, the specials are the ONLY ones I'd re-re-buy, and ONLY if they include a redub and are in fullscreen. Otherwise I'm more than content with the Double Feature versions, which these are more than likely just repackages of. Twitter-Meri's right, though, those are sexy covers.

Never underestimate the massive popularity of Fruits Basket.

Also yay for season 1 being real. Why does Funimation care it got laked early? Is it a stupid control thing.

Fair enough. Problem is, shoujo doesn't actually sell on DVD... only those stupid hats do :P. Could hats account for half of their money...? Man, that's frightening...

Probably so, hell I would want absolute control over a product that makes me the most money. When things such as this leak early, they will have to revise their marketing plans. Yet, according to some, they are lacking in that department anyway. Then again, they may have been responsible for the leak in order to save on marketing for if the right people get wind of it they know the fans will spread the word thus they save money.
The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.

I assumed it was Dragonball. Man I'm doing badly on the joke front lately.

I just don't get it in a case like this. The sooner fans learn about it the more anticipation can be built up.

I'm hoping the first Dragoball movie is included. Like the GT special was put on the season 2 set. Is it safe to assume this will include the Pilaf and Tournament sagas?

I'd like to see that too. One way or another, I hope we see the DB movies get the good remastering treatment the Z ones did (and hopefully some redubs along with it).

That'd put it at 28 episodes, low compared to most of the Z sets, but still solid. Apparently there's an episode or two of filler after that, but it still kinda blends in with the beginning of the Red Ribbon Army saga, so they'd probably save it for Season Two.

I hope Wallmart is simply assuming when they put "Widescreen"...
After the GT sets, you'd think FUNi understands how to get it right now

Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

FUNi's reps have proven to not be reliable at cons. All of their default response information is pretty outdated. Their words can't really entirely be trusted because they've likely just trained themselves to give the "we don't got no rightz" answer after years and years on answering.

I'm sure FUNi just wanted to be able to announce this themselves instead of having everyone find out through leaked information. It'd be crazy for all of this to be just a hoax. These sets are finally coming.

As for the boxart, hooray! I knew it would be blue! I've never seen that image of Goku before, but I gotta say it looks fantastic. I'm pretty sick of all of FUNi's season set artwork featuring everybody looking extremely pissed off, so to have an image of little, paranoid, episode-one Goku is refreshing. Plus, the blue clothes further confirm that the first 13 episodes are finally safely in FUNi's possession.

As for the widescreen thing, I just wouldn't get too worried just yet, you guys. First of all, specs given by online trailers are almost always incorrect in some way (I still see pages for Z sets that say "fullscreen"). Plus, think back to the GT sets. We got so much conflicting information about the aspect ratio that we didn't know whether it was going to be cropped or not until one of us got the freaking sets for ourselves and checked. I'm sure the widescreen thing is just an error.

As much as I hate giving FUNi the benefit of the doubt on ANYTHING regarding this series, I really think they know better than to crop the show by now.

That cover looks nice. I never understood why GT was in full screen while DBZ (and now DB, it looks like) was in widescreen. I like consistency.

That being said, I will most definitely buy these. There's a few episodes of Dragonball I haven't seen, and there's a nostalgia from DB that I don't get from DBZ (or GT).
If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.

Oh, and regarding the movie re-re-releases, I don't really see how it's anything groan-worthy. At the very worst, we can just not buy them if we don't want them. I'm actually pretty happy about the news since now if one of my double feature discs gets scratched to the point of unplayability, I can just buy the single movie I need for a cheaper price instead of having to rebuy the whole double feature and have a duplicate.

I've still gotta get one of the "Double Feature" versions, actually. I'm sure I'll just get the Blu-ray eventually...

... but that is not the topic of discussion! >.<

Kunzait_83 wrote:Again, I'm far less concerned for the widescreen, and way more concerned about the image quality (or potential lack thereof). I recall a lot of the video-philes on here talking awhile back about how the older the footage is, the worse FUNi's remastering process is on it. And again, this is original 1986 Dragon Ball we're talking here... put those two factors together, and it appears to be a perfect recipe for "shitty, unwatcheable picture quality". In that regard, the widescreen may well be the LEAST of this sets problems.
Hmmm, true. I keep forgetting that every single episode of Dragon Ball is older than "season two" of DBZ. That scares me. All I can hope is that these sets are more like GT's where FUNi showed a little more restraint with the DVNR. Plus, I keep hearing FUNi got slightly better masters for DB than they got for DBZ. Is there any credibility to that claim?

Maybe anime companies should be trying to get our buying power instead of the new kids that don't pay for anime.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.
