All 3 lessons so far have been helping a lot. I've been doing Internet Voice Acting for about 3 years. With my range I can go high, but there is a point where I start to crash down.
My range is:
Close to the very end of Low: Ryuk (Dub a.k.a Brian Drummond's take/version)
Low: Natural voice
Medium: Cartman
High: Kid Goku voice (or Trey Parker-eqse trying to pull off woman voice)
With conveying emotion, for the most part I seem to be decent at it, except when it comes to Dragon Ball. I can't get it right. Hell, I'm not 100% sure which voices I can do match with the certain characters.
-------------------------------------------------
I'm looking forward to the next one and the 2 after that one.
Also, you're right. When going and listening to how different a voice sounds with time is kinda surprising.

I've been playing with my voice for a while, and I think I can pretty much hit most of that bar. The weird thing is, it's a bit spotty. Like I can do a Dan Green super-deep, but I can't really go with a more medium-low

Episode 5 was a nice little intro to stuffage! Just for the heck of it, I'll throw in my own two cents on things as someone who's done minor voice acting for fan parodies in the past... and... ya' know, someone who's recording voices each and every week
.
WHERE you record...
You want buffering. Trust me. Listen to episode 185 of our podcast when we were down in my living room with high ceilings, and then listen to the most recent episode (187) when we're back up in the loft. You can hear the echoing in the former. You don't want that. Especially if you're rocking a condenser mic, consider doing a little sound-proofing in the room, or piling up some pillows behind the mic to trap the sound in a little better.
WHAT type of mic...
While I have little to back this up other than personal experience, I've found that someone who hasn't quite learned the basics of mic etiquette is better served with a dynamic mic over a condenser mic. The latter typically picks up more range of your voice, and will exaggerate all your little mannerisms like turning away from the mic, extra breathing, etc. Unless you're also rocking something like a hardware compressor, you might want to start off with dynamic mics.
HOW to handle the mic...
Always use some type of stand, and never touch IT or the surface it's ON. You're going to make noise... I guarantee it. It's probably less when you're just on your own as opposed to recording with a group of people, but it's possible, none-the-less. If you want to just get some basic little desktop stands to start off with, cool. As you keep going and going and going and probably get a better mic, think about investing in a boom stand.
I think that's it for right now

Thanks for the voice tips, Masako!
Definitely makes me look at my own voice acting differently.

Hehe, yeah I liked doing that edit. I was gonna do a walk off into the sunset, vanish and then appear at the side of the camera but this way turned out to be more striking.Chuquita wrote:That video edit at the end with the door was priceless. XD
Definitely agreed about WinZip.
That fancy microphone looks so authentic. *_*
Audacity is wonderful; did not know about the noise reduction button. Thank you!

With each new feat of awesomeness that you present, I feel a little more validated in my ear-splitting dub Fat Buu voice in NMZ4.

Still working my way through, but something occured to me recently (a few hours ago) that... I was reminded of here.
There's a distinctly different... something in the sound of narration Vs someone speaking in a video...
Is there some way to simulate the latter? *confused*
Asking because I somewhat spontaneously realized that I'd be more satisfied with my projects if they at least sounded like video more often...

But... but... Putfile self-destructed in a ball of "eating three years worth of audio" flame...
I might check out the professionalish series you mensioned on youtube, though; thanks!
