Someone wanna translate this for me?

Post by Dayspring » Fri Dec 17, 2004 8:48 pm

The pic is the REAL last appearance of Lunch in the manga, the only instance where she appeared after the 23rd Budoukai. It was written as an end of year thing where all the SJ mangaka did a small little bitty that had what their characters were doing at the time of the holidays (which was the only reason why it didn't appear in the tankoubon). Since this doesn't contradict the manga's canon in any form or way it can actually be considered canon itself.

With my extensive knowledge of pretend-japanese, I half-assedly adapted this into poor english for your enjoyment!

Remember the mini-manga translating joint-venture thingy we were going to do months ago? :P

When you stopped returning my PMs and I got too busy w/school work I abandoned it. But I still want to know what this one says. It and a few others (like "The Manga and Me" ->where my avy's from) come from the french version of daizenshuu 7. I started translating this myself with the kanji guide in the daizenshuu, but sadly noticed that it translated from kanji to alphabet (ie: painstaking flipping back and forth would get me "Kami-sama", but if one doesn't know what Kami OR sama means...).

Unfortunately this is as big as it'll go. Any bigger and I can't host it without it going all fubar. To keep the daizenshuu as close to the original Japanese version as possible, the French version had all the extra mini-manga shrunk to hell so they'd fit on 2 pages.

I successfully translated Kamesennin's word bubble though, since he was talking in english and not in japanese: *ACHEM*

Well. On first impression of the manga scan, you would assume that Oolong is taking a nap, Launch is pissed off about something, Kamesennin is sweeping, the fighters on Kaiou's planet are playing hide and go seek, and Bulma is playing a video game (super famicom I think).

Now my skills in translating are straight wack but...I gave it my best shot. Some of them I didn't get and some I don't even think are part of the Japanese vocabulary (Bulma for instance). Now, this is going from left to right.

Oolong: (Didn't get this one, but I would assume that he was snoring.)

Launch1: (I didn't get this one either. But she is obviously complaining about something that would go along with her next statement being...)

Launch2: Kuso (Shit)

Kamesennin: *Humming*

Broom: *satsu* *satsu* (Sweeping sound)

Yamcha: (It is possible that he is counting down due to that fact that he is "it".)

Tenshinhan:

Bulma1: eitsu iketsu!!

Bulma2: Soratsu!!

If you wanna scan ultra-insane high resolution / size and either e-mail or AIM, we'll have no problem working with it.

And I'm still totally interested in something like this... especially considering some of the projects we're working on / section I'm creating this very instant...

Some will be an INSANE problem though because of their original size. FOUR manga, each consisting of four panels, were plopped together and STILL only took up the size of the Kamesennin panel in the Last-Lunch manga. It was rare scans and not just manga in the pages, so there were prototype sketches of GT by Toriyama (apparently he wanted Gill to be called "Ojama"??).

I'll PM you the link to my photobucket account. Anything that says "animeMe" will obviously be rescanned. The Kamesennin ones are the 00ber-small ones blown up to shit. [BRAG]And the pic of the hot girl titled "presidentbig" is my girlfriend.[/BRAG]

Maybe you should create a section or guide that is dedicated to those "Special" manga pieces of the Dragon Ball series. That one where Vegita beats Goku in Super Famicom comes to mind.

*doesn't say what's being worked on*

Dayspring: Totally get ya'. I know some of them are crap size. I do know that others here own the original Japanese seventh daizenshuu, and if they're in there at better sizes, we can probably work with that, too.

Definitely want to go forward with this, though.

I've got that one in daizenshuu 1, I think... *scans a few things*

Yeah, since there was so freakin' little to translate in daiz1, Glénat "translated" it as well. No other french daizenshuu though. :(

See, and some rabid DragonBall fans don't even know that it exists. Mike, would you consider doing something like that for your site if people could find you the pictures.

Fuck it, I'm just going to flood your e-mail with a giant 00ber folder.

EDIT: Actually, how much can get posted in a single PM? I could just link the pics like I did the one in this thread.

Many much thanks.

EDIT: I just sent an e-mail to EX containing 4 mini-manga. Want me to send them to you as well, Julian? In total the e-mail would be around 2.2megs.

Ah, not to go too far off-topic, but why would Lunch be searching for Tenshinhan, when she should already know he died fighting Nappa? Silly Toriyama...

Because she never FOUND Tenshinhan after she went looking for him between the 23rd budoukai and arrival of Radditz. That's why she never reappeared in the manga, or at least that's what Toriyama's reason was.
