Without doubt.

I wonder why they're doing seven sets, though...
More episodes, and it corresponds to the Dragon Balls.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Yes, the dub is confirmed. I'm sold. Bye-Bye, bricks.

My only concern is just how many of the special features originally included with the Japanese counterparts that these English Dragon Box versions decide to keep, which I suspect will not be many.

Funi'll probably include their own special features. Maybe the old Burger King promotion commercials? Toonami promos? There are endless possibilities.

I'd imagine they're just putting the Dragon Box masters on the disks as is. If they did any further touch-up work or image filtering it would only defeat the purpose of buying the masters in the first place. I'm sure they paid a hefty sum of money for these, and it's obviously for the hardcore fans, so I have complete faith in FUNi to do the right thing here.

My only concern at this point is the actual DVD quality. The Dragon Box disks were dual layer, 6 episodes per disks, single audio track. These are 7 episodes per disk, with multiple audio tracks. Granted, DVD technology has changed since 2003, but I'm still a bit nervous on this part.

Regardless, I'm going in for a double dip here (double dip on Dragon Boxes, that is!). For the first time in about a decade, I'm going to support a FUNimation DragonBall Z product. This is what happens when they show respect to the series and it's fans. :D

Are you insane? $80 for fourty episodes, particularly of this quality, is anything but a ripoff, especially when you consider that we're getting the entire series for far cheaper than what they paid in Japan for the same thing.

For the content in question? No, it's not.

But whatever, there are now two options available for DBZ in North America. This should technically put every argument about the series' DVD release to rest. You can buy the bricks or the box, whichever you prefer.

J!-Ent wrote:Flower Mound, TX – July 18, 2009 — FUNimation Entertainment, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Navarre Corporation, today announces that it has acquired the original masters for the entire Dragon Ball Z anime series, episodes and films, and will release all as the Dragon Box for the first time in the U.S. The first of seven Dragon Boxes will be available at major retailers nationwide this Fall.

The Dragon Box will be produced from the original Dragon Box masters after a frame by frame restoration and will span the entire 291 episode television series and all 13 of its movies.

This definitive DVD box release begins with Dragon Box One which includes the first 42 episodes, uncut, on 6 discs.

The Dragon Box releases will feature an aspect ratio of 4:3, the original Japanese audio (with options for an English track or English subtitles), the original episode previews, complete opening and closing credits and a collector’s booklet.

Dragon Box One will be available at major retailers nationwide on November 10, 2009 and will have an SRP of $79.98.
Looks like we'll be getting movie boxes, too.

Fucking hell yes...

I'm so glad I didn't buy into the whole "orange brick" thing. I could almost laugh at you all who bought them, but I'm too happy and amazed at this announcement.

I'm glad to see that most of you are readily willing to part with the Season Sets for the FuniDbox.

Oh man... I'm so shocked right now, just, hell yes! Finally! FINALLYYY!
back into obscurity I go!

I submitted to the Dragonbox releases a long time ago, so he spared Hilton Head Island.
