Though, I'm betting they are talking about the Pony Canyon work.
They won't. Pony Canyon already did all of the restoration a long time ago.

Like a bunch of others here, I bought every single orange brick assuming it would be Funimation's final attempt at releasing Z on DVD before Blu-Ray.
Ugh, man, I really don't want to buy this series AGAIN. I might get the first and second sets if only because the quality on the Season 1 and Season 2 sets is completely abysmal.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

What the motherfucking fuck is this FUCK!?
Jesus Christ what can I say about this? I'd better sell my orange bricks and fast. I hope that FUNimation keeps selling these for a while. I don't have the funds to pay for this now. And they'd better release the original and GT. I do NOT want to waste $200+ on Dragon Ball Z if I can't have the same for my favorite portion of the series. You hear me FUNimation? I know you listen. I know you do.
Oh my god. This is going to take some planning, but they will be mine... Oh yes... They will be mine.
Am I pissed that I bought the orange bricks only to find this? A little, yes. But I think my excitement of a top-quality, end-all, consistent release is too strong.

That's exactly the same as the originals.disturbed001 wrote:In case it wasn't already poster, ANN says:So we do have confirmed English dialog. but 42 episodes on 6 discs? hmm...The Dragon Box will be produced from the original Dragon Box masters after a frame by frame restoration and will span the entire 291 episode television series and all 13 of its movies.
This definitive DVD box release begins with Dragon Box One which includes the first 42 episodes, uncut, on 6 discs.
The Dragon Box releases will feature an aspect ratio of 4:3, the original Japanese audio (with options for an English track or English subtitles), the original episode previews, complete opening and closing credits and a collector's booklet.

But like I said in an earlier post, technology has changed since 2003, so hopefully it's be ok.

I honestly thought it wouldn't get any better than the Season Sets. I was delusional enough to think they wouldn't do it again. But now that they have! I'm actually happy about it. How on earth does a company get you to spend money on something then make you happy that you're going to spend money on the exact same goddamn thing?Eddie wrote:I've got the bricks, but you will certainly not hear me complain about spending more money. Funi didn't haye this footage before. I'm just happy we're getting this.
I need more information. When? How much? How long?

And Funi has since gotten better with encoding. The first 3 discs of Season 9 are 7 episodes and they look great.DBW wrote:Originals = 6 episodesRoarkVegeta wrote:That's exactly the same as the originals.disturbed001 wrote:In case it wasn't already poster, ANN says: So we do have confirmed English dialog. but 42 episodes on 6 discs? hmm...

No, the originals are 6 eps to a disc, not 7. Plus, we have multiple audio tracks. If this is all true, its likely the R2 releases will still have higher bitrates. But I doubt you'd be able to tell the difference too much if the encoding is done well.
Personally, I feel like I've wasted a good chunk of money, but I'm betting if these sell well (and its likely they will) we will see BluRay releases from it. That's what I'm hoping for. BluRay DBox footage would completely rule (and its the only thing left I'd shell money out for now).
