Now I'm waiting to for Funi to put the trailer on the DBZ website or as a download like with the Season One tech trailer so I can enjoy it's glorious quality. :D
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Okay, now that the complete disbelief has kinda subsided (kinda)….

I'm torn. On the one hand I almost want to say I feel pretty damned inconvenienced by this: even when I sell my bricks (and believe me, I’ll be selling these little bastards) what I make off of them won’t make as much of a dent in what I’ll be paying for all seven Dragon Box sets overall as I’d feel comfortable with: roughly $180-$200 for all nine bricks, as opposed to over $500 for the seven Dragon Boxes.

That’s $300 in splurge money that I’ll ultimately be out that could’ve gone towards finishing off my giallo collection instead of something I’d technically already paid for and thought I was all over and done with collecting.

That’s not to say it technically wasn’t at least in part my own damn fault: nobody put a gun to my head and made me cave and get the Bricks (then again, I technically shouldn’t also have been starved of the series in a proper U.S. release for more than a decade/decade and a half after it was first licensed: this series by all rights should’ve been getting the Ranma ½ treatment as far back as 1994).

And on the other hand… ZOMFG!!!! DraGonbOXes!!!! R1!!!! SUbbED!!! Fo ReALZ!!! *dies*

Honestly, I never thought I’d see the day where I’d be saying this about anything relating to Dragon Ball and FUNi (outside of the hiring of Simmons years back) but… kudos FUNimation. Hardcore motherfucking kudos and a half. Shouldn’t have taken anywhere near this long, but better late than never right?

Ultimately, this release is SO perfect that in all honesty, I can’t bring myself to be all THAT frustrated about double dipping for almost the whole damn thing. I honestly can’t in any way think of a single solitary “catch” FUNimation could possibly make with something like this.

It’s the Dragon Box footage. In a variation on it’s original packaging. With the Japanese audio as the default fucking setting (WOOOOOO!!!!!). Simmons’ subs will be there of course. The missing episode previews restored, all the right Ops and EDs. I don’t think the lack of multi angles will be an issue here since I can’t possibly see them using the dub title cards for a release that has the dub as a (excuse me while I hold back a smirk) “secondary option”…

Seriously what the hell could they possibly do to slot this up? I think this may actually be it. An actual, honest to god, no strings attached, Dagon Ball Z DVD release catered specifically to the non-dub fans. From FUNimation. Excuse me, is that an angel I see flying out my asshole? And why is the rain outside falling upwards?

Maybe we won’t have the marathon feature back, but oh well, not a huge loss in the grand scheme. The only thing I can think of that might sully this is that we won’t see this release completed due to it being aimed at a more… “niche” segment of the fanbase, rather than Joe Average, and thus not selling up to par enough to see it finished. That would suck hard. But if nothing else, FUNi can at least count on most of daizex to support this Bad Motherfucker of a release, so let’s hope that the folks here will help out to some extent in keeping this ship sailing to its 291st episode destination.

Will these also have both Bardock and Trunks specials along with the 2 part OAV? That’d be damned sweet, a groovy icing on the cake, but ultimately not a deal breaker in the least considering.

Dear lord, this may actually be it. FUNimation, after more than 13 years of doing nearly everything wrong by Dragon Ball Z stateside, may have actually coughed up a 100% catch-free release of the whole thing.

Anyone else have a sinking suspicion this is one of the first signs of an impending apocalypse of some sort?

But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

I skipped the Orange Bricks. I skipped the movie re-releases. I sold my R2 DVDs. Now it's all paying off. I was going to buy the Kai Blu-Rays when they came out, but I think I'll wait a couple more months and get the FUNi DBoxes instead.

FUNi's announcement says from the same video as the Dragonboxes, doesn't it say? The French dvds are also from the same video source, so I would not be surprised if FUNi does their own remastering, but hope I'm wrong.

I still have 3 seasons to buy, and I'll at the very least buy those and complete that.

But...

I really want this release. I really, really, do. While yes I'm a bit mad at buying the bricks, I do want to show support for Funimation's efforts on bringing these over. The only thing is, if I get these sets, the bricks will simply gather dust.

Now, one thing I'm wondering on is if I should get the movie tins or not. There will be a Dbox eventually, so...
I think I'll be buying assorted Dragon Ball things for the rest of my life.

I know I will definitely at least replace my Seasons 1 and 2 releases with these... But as I am tight on money, I may or may not get the rest of the series.

Seasons 6-9 are already pretty decent so I may just go up Season 5 at most. ... I need to get a job!

Well, the double features are already in pretty good quality, so those probably won't be worth waiting for. But then again, this is from someone who would be double dipping even further if he bought the movies in DBox quality.

That said it in the video posted earlier.

It's in the video on FUNi's YouTube channel. The guy presenting says "We didn't change a damn thing", and the slides behind him--in fact, watch the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7aVAVXw ... annel_page

Chris Sabat said it in the YouTube video.

I leave the house for a few hours and I miss what is quite possibly the biggest Dragon Ball-related announcement ever. This is awesome, it sucks because I'm going to struggle to get my hands on them..but it sounds like it will be worth it.

As an additional note to that video, start at around 9:16 and watch from there.

Oh, I know your pain. I was literally just planning to finish off on the orange bricks today. I think I may still, for the sake of completion (and since I don't feel like parting with these sets for half what I payed, even if I don't ever plan on watching them again).

I just really can't believe this has happened. I've been lurking in the topic since I made my previous post of disbelief, and now... not much has changed. I just wish this news could have come at a better time because this is truly a day for celebration.

Thanks guys... They have obviously re-encoded these though, since Dragonboxes has 6 episodes per disc, with Japanese version only, but I'm probably gonna pick up one set to compare with the Dragonbox I have. I have to admit FUNi is never ceases to surprise... Hopefully DB will be released this way, because I never got the DB Dbox in my hands :D Oh, I also hope there won't be a picture of Goku on every set either (or half of the sets), even though it fits very much for the first set.

I never bought a single orange brick, but hearing this announcement makes me want to snatch them all up. Call me crazy, I'm not even a hardcore collector of DBZ DVDs or anything (i'll probably start a collection as soon as the DB season sets come out, then work my way up to the dragon boxes. I'm mostly an old ~*VHS*~ nerd. yes, dub and all). I'm just vaguely curious how bad they look on a standard TV, and the contents inside. Maybe when everyone starts selling them off I'll try to purchase some.

When I first heard this announcement this afternoon, I was seriously thinking NO ORANGE BRICKS FOR ME, but then when everyone mentioned selling them I was like.... *HMMM.* Oh the irony. I still want the Dragon Box sets more than anything, since this is finally the definitive thing. :D

The Set's would probably be something like-a this!
1 - 42
43 - 84
85 - 126
127 - 168
169 - 211
212 - 251
252 - 291

Tight on money? I'd sell crack just to buy these new Dragonbox sets.

Being as I only have two double feature sets, I'll be buying the Movies Dragonbox as well.

The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.
