Oh, now, I'm sad/angry.

First off, this set is catering to the Japanese fans. Not that's a bad thing in and of itself, but now, as a dub fan, I need to change a show I've seen in English forever into my own language!?

Well, as long as the dub track is included along with the Faulconer music, I suppose I can handle it.

Fortuanlty, I only bought 1 orange brick, so... that's not too bad.

What appals me the most is how easily most people have ditched the season sets. I mean, it's not like I was under an illusion that most people liked it, but seeing something I love being just thrown away? It makes me sad.

As a dub fan, I've been forced to deal with almost everyone telling me that it sucks. On top of that, I adore the orange bricks, and no one else does. I've had to deal with that too. And now, it turns out that FUNi is now ditching me (Well, my demographic) in favor of the other fans!?

*sigh*

Well, as long as I get my dub voices and music, I can deal with this.

Don't get me wrong, it's not like I'm not excited. It's just a little dishearting seeing FUNi do this. I loved my one orange brick. And now, with this new release that I probably won't even be able to buy...

I guess I'll have to wait and see how this plays out. At the very least, as long as my music and voices are included, I suppose I'll be able to see the show as it was intended... Despite my love for Widescreen.
Look at it this way… the dub fans have been catered to since day one for the past 13 years. This is like… the first Dragon Ball N/A release in the series’ entire sordid history in the states to be catered specifically to the fans who, in some (though of course not all) cases, were here way the hell before any of the dub fans. The first one. Specifically for us. Ever. In 13 years.

The dub fanbase has been favored every step of the way for a decade and change… this is the first time ever that FUNi is openly acknowledging the other side of the coin. This is the first time that they’re blatantly acknowledging that the dub is not favored by EVERYONE (more so than even when they put subs on the DVDs at all).

I don’t mean to sound like a dick but seriously man… let us have this one. Please. I myself have been waiting for something like this since 1993, and I know my fair share of people who’ve been waiting just as long, if not longer. I think we earned it.

Japanese version fans have had to make a bee-line for the language option for this whole decade’s worth of U.S. Dragon Ball DVD releases up till this one… I think after all that time for all those releases, it’s only fair that the dub side of the fanbase gets their turn at having to do that, if only just this once.
Well, it seems as though we'll be getting both the Japanese voice track, and the dub voice track, correct?

Now, obviously, the Japanese voice track is going to have the Jap. BGM, right? And, if the dub is included, it will most certainly have our BGM.

It seems we'll both be getting what we want, it seems.

This consoles me. Like I said, as long as my voices and music are included, I can handle everything else they're planning to do with these sets.
You are making these out to be a bad thing. Boo f'n hooo. The fans of the Japanese version have been outright ignored for 15 years. We've had to put with music changes, a shaky dub, and releases that have made no sense. There is one release on the horizon that attempts to right the wrongs of the past. I'm beyond excited for it even though I bought all the damn orange bricks.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

But still, they should include dub w/JPN bgm AND, the Faucloner score. That way they satisfy everyone as far as hardcore fans go. This isn't JUST about you guys.

Has any FUNi release NOT had their dub as an option?

I've got to buy this, the DB set, still got to get the DBGT sets, the rest of the Steelbooks (I only have the first two), and the Wii game?

Well, it's looking like this will be the year I get my first job.

Having every last little dub option and not having the dub as the default option are the things that the dub fans are getting mad about.

Granted. I just meant the part about "I'm disheartened that they're catering this to the Japanese fans. It'll be annoying to have to switch the audio every time just to hear my preferred version".

My point in response to this was, the dub fanbase has ALWAYS had Dragon Ball releases catered to them, and the Japanese version fanbase has ALWAYS had to go for the menu setup every single time. This is the first time EVER that this equation has been reversed. In light of this, I don't think I could listen to a single dub fan complain about this without my having to comment on it.

Just let the Japanese version fans get their one day in the sun here, is all I'm asking. And of course, at the end of the day, both languages will still be there. We've gotten that same consolation from the dub fanbase all these years, I see no reason why any dub fan should now get up in arms now that this one release for the first time in U.S. DBZ history is not specifically catering to their preferences.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

Yes, I believe that's what I'm mad about as well.

Simply put, if it doesn't include the dub and it's music, I will be even more angry.

Having the information sink in now, I don't think it's all bad having the release be towards the Japanese fans... So long as FUNi doesn't forget about us.

There's only ONE Japanese version. There are TWO different versions of the dub. We're just asking them to include both instead of dropping one and ditching the other.

I agree with everyone here that's saying how the dub has been favored for thirteen years, which is obviously true. However I don't view this set as only for fans of the Japanese version - I've never seen the Japanese version. Back when the DVD singles were coming out, I still only had a VCR, and I didn't have much money to start buying them or the much later UUE volumes when I finally did get a DVD player. Finally with the release of the season sets I thought I'd finally get to watch the series in its original language, but after finding out about the cropping and poor remastering, I was simply appalled and refused to buy such a shoddy product.

Coincidentally, just a few days ago I was trying to make up my mind how I wanted to buy the series - all season sets, old DVD singles and some UUE volumes with season sets, R2 singles despite not having subtitles, etc.

So as someone who's only exposure to the Japanese version has been YouTube clips and the language switch option in video games, I simply can't wait for the domestic Dragon Box releases. I'm really looking forward to finally be able to sit down and watch the series in Japanese like I've wanted to for so many years!

FUNi is actually doing something right here, even if the dub is not present there will be subs. And the Japanese version is better anyways. It could also be that Toei only let FUNi have these if the dub was not on them.

Well that would be stupid. They already confirmed that the dub is THERE. We're just worried about whether they'll only include one.
