The JP Dragon Boxes came with 1 book each, giving 2 books in total.

The fact that we're getting 7 books is amazing in itself. Who knows what FUNi may put in them. :)
The first one should be an 80 page letter of apology to the fans of the original Japanese version for all the crap they've had to put up with for the last 13 years.

This is excellent news. I never expected this. I was just thinking about getting the widescreen sets and now I see this to completely change my mind. I cannot wait. I hope there's a good sale at Best Buy or at least Right Stuf.

This release kinda takes the place of that.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. How about a toddler kicking a Funi executive in the balls?

I'd actually prefer them to be episode guides with the original JP and maybe the US airdates along with a synopsis and character profiles.

Maybe 3 or 4 of the books will be translations of the original Dbox books.

I'm starting to wonder if they'll even do Dragon Ball or GT.

Most likely, but not for a while. Hopefully the movies someday.

This news makes me wanna wait on ordering DB season 1; I don't wanna get screwed on that...
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
I can't speak for anyone else. But for my part, I don't "want" any dub fans to be left out with this release. Why would I specifically WANT anyone to not get what they want out of something this cool?

But by the same token, if the dub DOES get the short end of the stick with this release, you'd have to be kinda dense not to realize that there'd be a LOT of dry eyes amongst the vast majority of people that are primarily interested in something like this.

The point of lot of us were making is, from FUNimation's perspective, a release like this would only interest fans of the Japanese version specifically. The VAST majority of dub fans don't know, and don't particularly give a shit about the Dragon Box footage. The vast majority of fans who've raised a stink over getting said Dragon Box footage in the U.S. however, are by and large Japanese version fans. That's just the way it is.

From a pure marketing POV on FUNimation's end, this is a product that will be primarily sought after by a group of people who frankly WILL NOT miss any aspect of the dub that happens to not be on this set. At all. Does it suck for the compariatively rare dub fans who DO give a shit about the Dragon Box footage? Of course it does.

But again, not a helluva lot of stringent dub fans have raised anywhere near as much of a ruckus over these sets as the Japanese version fans have. From FUNimation's perspective that equates to releasing them with THOSE people firmly in mind. In "marketing logic", the season sets are more than adequate in satisfying the dub fanbase who are so loyal to it that they'd care about Faulconer's score.

And as dick-ish as this sounds, the dub fans have NEVER ONCE been tossed over in a U.S. Dragon Ball release. If this indeed will mark the first release that that occurs with, then it'll be a first for you guys in over 13 years of being put on a pedestal in FUNimation's marketing priorities. As sorry as I genuinely am for you... little perspective here in which side of the coin has had to put up with more bullshit from FUNimation in those years.

And also, for all we know, both BGM scores MAY WELL be on there. So all this hubub may just as well be over nothing.

But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

I definitely think they will, especially if the Dragon Ball releases sell well. These also have to sell quite well, and they will. Funi will again be raking it in with these upcoming releases. GT is the least likely.

Now, here is what is weird to me. It says they acquired all of the thirteen DBZ movies that were found on the Dragon Box. I find this weird because in the JPN release of the Dragon Box, movies from both DB and DBZ were included. If Funi wants to be consistent with the JPN Dragon Box releases, you would think that their movies Dragon Box would be EXACTLY the same as the JPN one, except for the subs and such. This causes me to believe that they have acquired all material for both DB and DBZ. They might just be refusing to release this info because they have upcoming season sets and they want people to again double dip.

They probably only acquired DBZ DBox masters.

The Dragon Box releases will feature an aspect ratio of 4:3, the original Japanese audio (with options for an English track or English subtitles), the original episode previews, complete opening and closing credits and a collector’s booklet.
This makes it sound like there's only one dub track.

My guess would be the 5.1 dub from the season sets.

Yes, possibly, but I'm wishfully hoping for my suggestion. I'm going to collect these first. Then if Funi decides not to purchase the DB footage, I'll buy the blue bricks.

That is like telling a child that there is an Easter Bunny but no Santa Claus. It is just sick and twisted. If they don't release the other DragonBoxes now I will spend days crying.

Jeez, give an inch and they'll take a mile. Be happy we're even getting this Dragon Box! Only hours ago this release was thought of as an impossible fantasy.
