Since I somehow can’t help but feel partially responsible for some of that shit, I’ll just say that MagicBox in this quote here sums up my general feelings better than I ever could:Deep Thought wrote:Then I saw purist dipshits "nicely" complain about how Dub VAs and music would "contaminate" the epic awesomeness of the DBoesx, and then coldly state how Dub fans can go fuck themselves, because they haven't suffered like the original fans have and blah blah, wah wah.
I vomited in rage and disgust. You always manage to raise my expectation and crumble them in a swift motion, Daizex. I'm sorry if this is coming off as extremely offensive, but this elitism in its purist form almost caused me to shake with rage.
There, I feel much better now that I've written this. Honestly, this wouldn't have happened Rampant Dub Douchebags and Elitist Japanese Dipshits would just SHUT THE FUCK UP.
So how’s that for “elitist” bullshit for you? I say here and now, as someone who’s been among the most critical of FUNi’s treatment of the Dragon Ball franchise stateside, as someone who’s always been as far the fuck away from their target demographic for this series within the U.S. for the past 13/14 years as can be… I’m saying, for the very first time in the franchise’s entire messed up U.S. history (and within my entire post-dub history as a fan) and with no reservations or “buts” involved…MagicBox wrote:FUNi's finally learned that their tampering gets them nowhere, so they're going back to the basics and just putting the show out there with no gimmicks. No widescreen, no cheap remastering, no "extreme," just a humble little show from the 80's/90's being presented for what it is. And best of all, FUNi's taking PRIDE in it. I wanna reward honesty like that. FUNi's done good, and it's nice to know I can lay down my money for what really is a definitive collection.
Yes, I know it's too soon to sing their praises when we don't have the release in our hands yet, but I'm willing to give FUNi the benefit of the doubt for once, especially since they've basically admitted that their products get worse when they try to make them better.
Thank you FUNimation.
Thank you for (finally, after a decade and a half of needless waiting and assorted bullshit) giving me basically what I wanted since way the hell before any of this crap with the series in the U.S. ever began, free of a single goddamned one of your trademark "catches". Thank you for FINALLY treating this series with the same level of care and respect that you’ve treated all your other anime properties with.
So long as this thing makes it through all seven volumes without getting discontinued, or thrown out of print within the span of a week after it’s release, AnimEigo-style, I’m as sound as a pound with every single thing about this release, and with Dragon Ball as it stands in the U.S. anime market today. Even getting dicked out of some money for the season sets isn't enough to make me anything less than entirely grateful for this release.
Thank you FUNimation. You finally did right by this little classic. Insofar as your treatment of Dragon Ball goes, you have now earned a significant chunk of my respect and support.
