You realize that an 8.5 GB disc doesn't really hold that much, right? It really hold about 7.9 GB max. Same reason why DVD-Rs say 4.7 GB on the package when they really hold about 4.3. A gigabyte isn't truly 1 billion bytes. What we refer to as Gigabytes are really Gibibytes.

I've burned loads of DVD's with the size about 100MB to the capacity (4.68-4.69GB)

On the subject of a Blu-ray release, do we know what resolution the Dragon Box footage was scanned at? Was it scanned at 1080p, or just at 480p? If the latter, then a Blu-ray release would be pointless because the detail simply isn't there. It would essentially be an upscale of the DVDs.

How would plastering pre-recorded dub voice tracks and music tamper with video quality?

Excuse me if that's a stupid question.

Then why are they labeled 8.5 GB, then? :?

What operating system are you using? Windows displays filesizes in Gibibytes, Mebibytes, and Kibibytes and labels them as Gigabytes, Kilobytes, and Megabytes.
jjgp1112 wrote:Then why are they labeled 8.5 GB, then? :?
Technically, it does hold 85 billion bytes. It's just that most operating systems don't display "true" gigabytes.

A blu ray release is already pointless because of Kai.

Windows 7.

Not sure why that is relevant though.

1 gibibyte = 230 bytes = 1,073,741,824 bytes = 1024 mebibytes

Gigabyte is pretty much a synonym for Gibibytes, you know. All a gibibyte is is a binary version of gigabyte.

I can't wait for the podcast review. I suspect Corey'll be back but even if the quality of these discs aren't 100% up there with Japan's I really don't think it'll be worth not buying them, espicially with the subs.

It's relevant because some operating systems display Gibigytes and some display "true" Gigabytes. I'm not saying you're a liar, but if you're using windows, it is impossible to burn 4.69 GB onto a disc.

Exactly, they are synonymous. The point is that what we call a gigabyte is really a gibibyte. The table in the wikipedia article you posted shows the capacity in GB, and next to it, its capacity in GiB. This is how Windows and most other operating systems will display filesize.

Four more pages since I've been asleep.

I hope Funi mentions if their DBoxes are going to have all the specials and commercials and such on them. I want to know if the traffic, firefighter, and playdia footage is on here.
On hiatus.

Weren't the traffic and firefighter commercials on the Dragon Ball Dbox and not the DBZ one?

Perhaps we could be so lucky as to get double sided dual layer DVD's. Unlikely, but it would be nice.

I don't think any commercial DVD has those.

They could put 3 episodes on one side and 4 on the other. Or make one side dub and one side sub.

I wouldn't say that. Just about all of the filler is going to be left on the cutting room floor for Kai (to be honest, I think it's impossible for them to squeeze just the manga material down to 100 episodes unless they stop after the Cell Saga). There will be a push for the original series in HD. Not to mention the fact that Kai won't be covering DB and GT.

I'm still curious, though. Was it ever said what resolution the DBox negatives were scanned at?
Big Boss wrote:I don't think any commercial DVD has those.
A few movies did get DVD18 releases, actually. They were notorious for never working correctly. We're better off taking our chances with the DVD9s.
