That sort of says something about how anticipated this release is amongst the dedicated fanbase. Sure, not a lot of the casual guys will get it (such as that IRL friend of mine I bring up a lot for the sake of contrast), but they've really reeled the nerds in with this one!jjgp1112 wrote:WE HAVE NOW SURPASSED THE DRAGON BALL THREAD. Yeah, I texted my friend (coincidentally, the person who first told me about the Season sets) about the Dragon Boxes and he just said "Wow" when I told him I'm buying these.Kendamu wrote:That sort of says something about how anticipated this release is amongst the dedicated fanbase. Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Won't they be releasing these in seven sets?jjgp1112 wrote:Funi's gonna have to make SOME necessary changes. I mean, hell, they took Freeza off the boxart and divided it into five sets. Taking the rep's statement literally, they already made changes.

Now, as far as I can tell, these DragonBoxes will NOT be limited releases that become more valuable than gold, correct?
And yeah, the price is a little steep when compared to the Orange Bricks, but considering the content, I will inevitably shell out for them (hoping for some good deals on Amazon, though!)
I am rather proud of myself for holding out this long. Just when I was starting to ENTERTAIN the thought of breaking down and buying the bricks, FUNi drops this megaton. Patience really does pay off, people. My sympathies to all who bought the bricks.

The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.
Whoops. I was thinking seven but for some reason wrote 5.DaemonCorps wrote:Won't they be releasing these in seven sets?jjgp1112 wrote:Funi's gonna have to make SOME necessary changes. Actually at MSRP, you're only paying about $110 more for all seven Dragon Boxes instead of buying the nine Orange Bricks. At discount prices that you're likely to see at stores like Amazon, I'm estimating that the price gap between the two releases will be around $80. Of course, how much of a discount we'll see at places Amazon and Wal-Mart is still way up in the air and we won't really know until pre-orders start going up.FDLink wrote:Now, as far as I can tell, these DragonBoxes will NOT be limited releases that become more valuable than gold, correct?

Also, there's also the aspect that, even at MSRP, the R1 Dragon Boxes will be a little over 1/4 the price of the R2 Dragon Boxes.
Actually, it's less that a tenth of the price. Or has the price gone down since 2003?Kendamu wrote:Actually at MSRP, you're only paying about $110 more for all seven Dragon Boxes instead of buying the nine Orange Bricks. $560 isn't less than a tenth of $2000.jjgp1112 wrote:Actually, it's less that a tenth of the price.Kendamu wrote:Actually at MSRP, you're only paying about $110 more for all seven Dragon Boxes instead of buying the nine Orange Bricks. Nor is it over 9000.

Yeah, sorry about that. I didn't know I was unclear. Essentially:jjgp1112 wrote:OOh, I didn't know you meant total.
R2 Dragon Box Z (eps. 1-291): Approx. $2000
R1 Dragon Box Z (eps. 1-291): MSRP $560
DBZ Season Sets (eps. 1-291): MSRP $450
So, really, it's a freakin' steal and isn't that much more expensive than the Bricks.
I see what you're saying. And am I right in assuming they WON'T be produced in limited quantities? As in: everybody who wants one will be able to buy one?Kendamu wrote:Actually at MSRP, you're only paying about $110 more for all seven Dragon Boxes instead of buying the nine Orange Bricks.
