There is also the question as to whether or not they will be using the the JP audio track that is on the original DBox (which is 320kbps, no?). They mention not tampering with the video, well, what about the audio? It's still mono, but according to everyone here who has heard it, the quality is near stereo. Or will they be sticking with their bare-bones 96kbps track they've always had?
They might downscale their 5.1 dub w/ Japanese music track down to stereo, and keep the Japanese track to around 320kbps.

It wouldn't even be an issue if they'd just bump the sets up to 7 discs each.
And Season 9, Disc 2, which has 7 episodes, uses 7.7 GB
The orange bricks didn't have next episode previews either, and didn't the episodes share the same OP & ED videos?
That is correct. That's an extra 3 and a half minutes PER episode that the Season sets did not have. At seven episodes per disc, that is a total of 23 minutes of extra footage-- essentially, a whole extra episode.

That's a shit ton of data, especially considering the Season Sets were almost maxing out the DVDs, too.

But I'd like to reiterate, though, that the Japanese Dragon Boxes were from 6 years ago and thus, US Dragon Boxes might be more compressed but still have the same quality.

Hopefully FUNimation releases some details and maybe a preview soon. If there's something that we as fans don't agree with or want fixed, if we voice our concerns there's a chance they might listen. Hell, they've been listening so far with these coming out at all.

I'm holding out some optimism though that the quality - whether visual or audio - won't take a hit. That's pretty unrealistic though when you consider the technical aspects.

If compression is so advanced now, why did the season sets almost max out the DVDs?

Considering the DBox has a lot more to store, are you saying that compression has advanced since 2 months ago? They're going to have to do more compression than on season set number 9, and that was nearing 8 gigs already.

Well, Funi no longer does Alternate Angles, so I assume that they'll ONLY be using the Japanese credits for the OP's and ED's. Which means that the only extra bit of footage will be the next episode previews - which would only be about 3 1/2 minutes of extra footage.

Normally, I'd be right there with you all nitpicking about the bitrates, compression and audio fidelity, but really... should it come to a slight bit of compression, I don't think anybody here will be able to discern it. We all know we're getting top-quality anyway, so why worry about it?

The show is 20 years old-- it can only look and sound so good.

Seriously, what's the point in complaining about bitrate issues if the only way you'll probably even notice is by zooming in x5.

This looks good, but this is making me doubt buying the Blue Bricks in Sept.

Because they're going to zoom in x5 so they can have something new to screech at FUNi about now that they're getting the DBoxes.

That's something I can't quite wrap my head around yet either. It just still hasn't hit me, and I don't think it will until I'm holding it in my hands. To think, back when the season sets were announced, everybody pretty much gave up all hope of ever seeing anything close to this, and now, in a just a few short months, we'll just be able to go out and buy these like it's no big deal.

After years of hearing about them, you build them up in your mind as something you're never going to get. Hell, you build them up in your mind as something you're never going to even SEE. My head starts spinning again every time I come back to this thread.

Who'd have thought that American fans would ever be able to point at their DragonBall collections and say "yeah, there's some posters, a few figures, a DAIZENSHUU BOOK, and, oh yeah, MY DRAGONBOXES."
I know. It seems like somebody FINALLY figured something out to make EVEN MORE money with minimal work! Hell, they can re-use the audio track from the last release and they don't even have to re-voice it. Just a few royalties here and there and they're raking in the cash.

As for the first Daizenshuu, it's mostly pictures, so not much translation involved. Absolute freakin' genius.

I really hope that the compression, if any, is not noticeable.

Maybe they'll make the decision to release the sets on more discs to prevent any possible problems. That would be most good indeed.

I'd like to ask the question on everyone's minds... Are we getting Special Presents? Because Daddy wants a scouter... and that Dragon Radar remote looked nice... and... well... all of the presents....

Didn't the Dragon Radar come with the GT sets and the Scouter came with the movies?

I think Funimation will figure something out. I don't think they are just trying to throw a bone, but the whole animal for the "hardcore" fans. If they went through all that work to get the Dbox, then I'm sure they are going to do plenty of quality checking before release.
I think I'll be buying assorted Dragon Ball things for the rest of my life.

Yeah They did....

This is the best news I've herd in a very long time.. Does anyone know if wal-mart will be carrying these sets? I would FYE be my best bet??? I hope they release DB and GT also... Since were getting the first set in November this is just my guess of how there going to be released....

NOV2009 DBox 1
FEB 2010 DBox 2
MAY 2010 Dbox 3
SEPT 2010 DBox 4
NOV 2010 DBox 5
FEB 2011 Dbox 6
MAY 2011 DBox 7
SEPT 2011 DBox 8 (Movies)

Then Again this is just a guess, I could be wrong but this is most likely... So another 3 yrs and The Dragonbox Z set will be complete...

Well, yeah... but that doesn't mean they can't release them with a Z set... or release GT or the movies.
