People make a big deal out of trivial stuff. This is one of them. It really doesn't happen often, but if you ask any fan of the show or hater of FUNi they'll try to make it seem like the whole damn set looks like this. Or in your case, that it happens every time the screen shakes.

The Dragon Box looks leagues better than that though. For those few instances of disgusting missing lines, it's worth the $80 in my opinion.

Because it does happen every time the screen shakes, maybe not if it shakes for a brief moment but if its vibrating for a long time I guarantee you detail and lines will be lost. Just because you like to bob on Funi's knob doesn't mean this shit doesn't happen.

If you're talking about seasons 1-3, I would perhaps agree...however if you mean ALL the seasons, then you may need to get your eyes tested. :)

I know 1-4 for sure. I haven't watched 5-9 in a long time but I can't remember any glaring issues.

What irks me far more even than that little bit of foolishness is just the aspect ratio. Look at the shot in question on the last page. Now, it's hard to tell due to the missing lines, but Goku's face basically begins at his mouth in that shot. You lose his entire chin, but in return gain slightly more ear. Watching limbs or chunks of chin or forehead just disappear really bothers me. And poor Vegeta! His hair gets lopped off all over the place.
To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.

Yeah, for me the cropping was worse than the "remastering." We'll all have something to be thankful for this November.

I used the scan Hujio send me after all to make my own PNG of the Dragon Box Z logo.

Exactly. Dragonbox and Dragonball episodes 1 -13. Pretty eventful few weeks.

Also, did Funi acknowledge the special that came out in April? With the way things are going, they could have that pretty soon.

(Now if Funi could only get a hold of the 'Eizou Hakusho' footage for Yu Yu Hakusho, I'd be one very happy camper :P

According to EX's twitter: "They want Jump special but don't have it right now. Cannot and will not say any more than that right now."

And yes, that would be AWESOME if FUNi picked up Eizou Hakusho.

Does anyone have any good Big Scans of the Japanese Dragon Box?
I could make a really really good mockup of the FUNi DBox cover if I had one.

Heya, remember that Welch guy from YouTube? This was one of his promos. We've traded some words, as follows:

Initial Contact:

Reply: I am still trying to play things cool since my last upload mistake. I was told I may upload things that FUNi has already uploaded to their youtube page....After some times passes I may ask to push that since their page isn't updated regularly but for now I dont want to rock the boat. Sorry! Did you like that promo? It's a strange angle we took on it music, visuals and VO wise.

My reply: I really liked how the musical work sounded similar to something from the original Japanese version. Some fans thought that Mr. Sabat was channeling the popular YouTube parody version of his portrayal of Vegeta from youtube.com/TeamFourStar's DragonBall Z Abridged which really helped the climate considering FUNimation seems to finally be recognizing their choice of going with the Orange Brick season sets was...well, dare I say wrong.

I think--if a fan's opinion matters--that trying to capture the original light hearted and adventurous appeal to the series not quite used in promotions before for the series would help solidify the product's purpose of being aimed at the Japanese version fans. It's an old property and that promo was absolutely a right step towards embracing that atmosphere, and as a big fan of the work Shunsuke Kikuchi did with his score (of which I'm sure YouTube is just filled with videos of if you wanted to look for inspiration). Not that I've a music degree (heck, I'm not yet nineteen) but musically I think it's had the best music-work I've seen in a FUNimation DragonBall promo for a long while now.

I wouldn't want to impose upon your own musical vision, however. As a fan of the music present in the Japanese audio track I think the 'hardcore' fanbase FUNimation is reaching out to with this release would appreciate if the promos felt like it was in the same spirit of their beloved Japanese version. While I can't speak for anyone else, I will say those opening bars gave me the same thrill as the 80s-early 90s pop-sounding Japanese music present in some other DragonBall music, so good on that. But again, I'm almost imposing my views on what your job as a composer should be and as someone who understands your role as a creator of intelliletcul property I can't easily tell you what you should and shouldn't do. I know reading around the DragonBall board I do the 'rockish/synth' music employed by FUNimation for the DragonBall title is pretty well hated and despised, but surprisingly there seemed to be a prositive feedback for the musical feel (of course it's a little hard to hear considering the nature of FUNimation's upload). Nonetheless I think you've done a great job and hope that the musical taste moves further from heavy guitar work and more towards an organic, adventurous-action packed ordeal (that DragonBall Season One music really hit the feel of the series, not that I probably haven't already said that). But then again, I'm ignorant of the instrumentation you fine guys use down there as it is.

As if this message isn't large enough already, I appreciate the choice not leave to alter the footage to make it 'cool' or anything like that. The entire point of this release is after all to show off that sexy DragonBox footage! :) If I could make a comment about the font work--and granted the upload I've seen is recorded via a camera--I think it'd be a nice touch to use a soft and round found similar to the one used in the DragonBox Z logo. I dunno if FUNimation lends you guys such materials as a outsourced partner, but it's certainly something to look into.

I haven't a clue what hand you had with the Sabat (yes, 'THE' Sabat), but it sure did sound like he was killin' himself with that yelling. Maybe for future promos he can try a more...not so much reserved as happy and excited tone (which would actually mean not in character as Vegeta). Actually, the use of an in-character performance was brilliant. I'd so pay to see DragonBox Two's promo narrated by Mr. Sabat as his Zarbon character. O.o

Another suggestion would be showing off my the new materials described in the first promo. Y'know, the next episode previews, Japanese credits/title cards, etc. Again, I don't know if FUNi gave you those materials to work with, but it'd certainly be worthwhile.

Welp, I've rambleled on long enough. Sayonara sir!

For some reason I actually prefer the colors and clarity of the orange bricks more than the DragonBox.

Yes, besides the disapearing lines on a few episodes.

Well, the problem is that the Orange bricks are RIFE with other problems.

The colors are bleached out during a lot of scenes. Look at season 2, a good point to look is the Space-People Running from Freeza filler. you couldn't tell where Kuririns eye ended and his face began! the skin was LIQUID PAPER WHITE.

Look back a page, they already discussed the missing detail lines...

Anyway, Like I asked, does anyone have a bigish scan of the Japanese DBox cover?

They're pretty raw, and not really clean, but I hope it's alright. That's also all I have, I don't have any scans of the spines, or any of the other boxes.
