Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

R1 DVDs don't have more space. They just have inferior video and audio quality.
Or they're using a special DVD for this release who knows.
I know! Since there's no such thing as a "special DVD", they're not using one.

Going back to what someone said on the first page: What the Hell is the third TV special? I've never heard of it.

Daizenshuu EX Rumor Guide wrote:There was also a third DBZ TV special that aired in Japan, though it was nothing like the Bardock or Trunks TV specials. This special was more of a compilation of footage introduced by Goku and Gohan (dressed up all nicely) to celebrate the show and ring in the new year. 「全部見せます年忘れDRAGONBALLZ」 (Zenbu Misemasu Toshi Wasure DRAGONBALL Z / We'll Show You Everything: Forget the Year's Cares with DragonBall Z) aired on 31 December 1993 and has not been included on any home releases in Japan thus far (including extras on Dragon Box sets and individual DVD releases). You can watch a VHS-capture on YouTube, and will see for yourself that it is not so much a "lost episode" or "lost movie" than it is just a little, toss-away, special New Year's Eve bit of filler-programming.
The video is no longer available (Ramza took it down since he was focusing his channel more on video game reviews and didn't want to get into copyright nonsense with DBZ stuff), but I'm sure it's floating around elsewhere.

Ah, so it was a clip show. Good, I thought I was missing out on something.

Keeping the e-mail's flowing...
To Whom it May Concern:
I am delighted with FUNimation's acquisition of the "Dragonbox" masters from TOEI. I have made many FUNimation purchases in the past (all of Fullmetal Alchemist, various One Piece products, and more), but have always resisted buying the entirety of Dragonball Z because you had yet to offer a product that fulfilled my wants as a fan of the original Japanese show.
With that said, I have seen much discussion and concern as to the condensing of information onto fewer DVD discs than the original Japanese Dragonboxes... along with the addition of the English language audio track. I sincerely hope that in any decisions made going forward with the "Dragonbox" is one that errs on the side of caution-- if these are truly to be releases for the hardcore fans, we are fully willing (and excited!) to pay for the best possible product. Spare no expense, and do not hesitate to put costs on us for the sake of an improved release.
Thank you for your time, thank you for listening to fan input, and any acknowledgment of this letter would be greatly appreciated!
Respectfully,
"The emptier one's head is, the more room there is to pack in dreams..."

Whoever hasn't emailed yet should mention to include Plan and the TV specials.
