Budokai 2 Questions

Post by Mike » Thu Dec 23, 2004 12:37 am

I recently got Dragonball Z Budokai 2 (Gamecube Version) and being the crazy Dragonball fan I am I must say that I love the game. I remember hearing the almost everyone hated the Dragon World mode but I really don't understand why. In Dragon World you are able to not only play as Goku but also an ally, such as Piccolo, Krillin, Tien etc. I find this to be superior to the story mode in Budokai 1 where you pretty much only controlled Goku. Of course I'm disappointed with the lack of cut-scenes and such, but from what I heard those aren't in Budokai 3 either. I also would like if someone could answer the following questions:

1. How do you select the evening/sunset versions of the stages? So far I was only able to play in the evening version of the World Tournament stage and that was done automatically when I reached the last fight in World Tournament.

2. In Dragon World is there a way to end your turn without moving one of your characters? I noticed the computer often leaves its "pieces" in the same spot and is able to end its turn.

3. In Dragon World is there some way to see the entire board? What I'm trying to ask here is there a way you can scroll across the board similar to Mario Party.

4. Is there a way pick alternate costumes in Dragon World?

5. How exactly do you get the Dragonballs in Dragon World? I have the radar but I'm not sure how to actually get the Dragonballs.

6. When you transfer data from Budokai 1 to 2, what exactly are you supposed to get? I thought all your breakthrough capsules were supposed to be brought over but when I did it all I got were some support capsules.

7. In the Rumor Guide on this site, it states that Budokai 2 is the only complete game in the trilogy but I personally don't think thats true. There are many text bubbles in Dragon World without voice overs, so if it is a compete game why wouldn't they record these lines.

NOTE: I am currently only up to the Dragon World stage where Majin Buu is about to be released, so I would appreciate it if no one posts any spoilers. If you must, please include a warning at the top of you post.

Thanks in advance for the answers. :)

1. I'm pretty sure you press Square when selecting the stage rather than X.

2. Yes. Tell your character to search the space he's on. The command will be shown at the bottom of your screen on a scrolling bar. This is also how you get DragonBalls

3. As far as I know, no.

4. See #3

5. See #2

6. You get some support capsules and Teen Gohan, if you had him on B1. They aren't going to give you Breakthroughs that easily

7. Dunno, maybe they didn't feel like paying the voice actors for extra lines.

Ah, I remember how nice it felt the first time too. Savour it now, because after a few times through you're gonna be sick of it, seriously. It's not terrible, just terribly repetitive.
1. How do you select the evening/sunset versions of the stages? So far I was only able to play in the evening version of the World Tournament stage and that was done automatically when I reached the last fight in World Tournament.
I don't even know if stages have evening/sunset versions...er, I might have missed that myself if it DOES exist n_n.
2. In Dragon World is there a way to end your turn without moving one of your characters? I noticed the computer often leaves its "pieces" in the same spot and is able to end its turn.

Simple, just press "cancel". I'm not sure what it would be on the CG controller though.
3. In Dragon World is there some way to see the entire board? What I'm trying to ask here is there a way you can scroll across the board similar to Mario Party.
There is way; I believe you can scroll around on your own turn, when your selecting which character you wish to move.
4. Is there a way pick alternate costumes in Dragon World?
Nope.
5. How exactly do you get the Dragonballs in Dragon World? I have the radar but I'm not sure how to actually get the Dragonballs.
On your turn, one of the buttons will allow you to search the spot you're on. If you happen to be on a Dragon Ball, you'll find it. Simple.
6. When you transfer data from Budokai 1 to 2, what exactly are you supposed to get? I thought all your breakthrough capsules were supposed to be brought over but when I did it all I got were some support capsules.
I got a few support capsules, and "Teen" Gohan. Lame.
7. In the Rumor Guide on this site, it states that Budokai 2 is the only complete game in the trilogy but I personally don't think thats true. There are many text bubbles in Dragon World without voice overs, so if it is a compete game why wouldn't they record these lines.
Mistake maybe?

Reading the back of the game at Gamestop, it claims it has "exclusive skill capsules". Is that true?
Battle High 2, starring Kyle Hebert as well as myself, has been released on Xbox 360, OUYA, PC, Linux, Mac, and Xbox One!

When you say Teen Gohan do you mean the one from the Buu Saga or the one from the Cell Saga? Also does this mean that you must get the breakthrough capsules all over again in Budokai 2?
There is way; I believe you can scroll around on your own turn, when your selecting which character you wish to move.
Any idea what button to press. I know I've tried to use the control stick but that didn't work and the directions at the bottom of the screen in Dragon World don' t say anything useful.
I don't even know if stages have evening/sunset versions...er, I might have missed that myself if it DOES exist n_n.
Actually they do exist as a special feature on the Gamecube version and I believe they were on the PS2 Japanese one as well.

Any idea what button it is on the GCN controller.

Not that I'm aware of, but like I said I basically just started the game.

Also did someone edit my post. I originally wrote Tien, but it now says Tenshinhan.

Edit: Holy Crap there it goes again.

I mean the Gohan from the Cell saga (the young adult Gohan is simply called "Gohan"). Otherwise you would've unlocked him by defeating Cell on the final stage with adult Gohan. And yes, you're going to have to collect all the breakthrough capsules again, by beating storymode one at a time. (But it's still less annoying than Mr. Popo)

Sorry, but I can't be much more help. Not only because I only own the PS2 version, but because I haven't played in months. ^_^' Check your instructional manual maybe?

The name was automatically edited by the boards word filter. Certain dub names Like H.ercule, and Fri.eza too.

To scroll around the whole board, try pressing R, or whatever brings up the characters' stats. Then you can scroll around the entire board.

I, too, thorougly enjoyed Dragon World, despite others saying they didn't. Of course, the problem is that if you want to get all of the Breakthrough capsules... you literally have to play the entire Dragon World THAT many times. It takes quite a bit to get through just once...! I enjoyed it, but I really didn't like playing it sooooo many times (so, like everyone else, eventually I just used the shop glitch once I felt I had beaten it enough times to feel good about myself :P).

On the map, there are buttons to:

- Bring up your capsules list to attach/detach
- Search the area you're on (IE - dig for a DragonBall)
- Cancel (IE - not move your piece)
- Switch to another character, instead (usually just left/right/up/down)
- Be able to see the entire map

Sadly, since this is the GameCube version we're talking about, I don't know exactly which button corresponds to which action in this version. However, they HAVE to exist, so it's just a matter of starting up a dummy Dragon World, trying them all out to see what does what, and then restarting it :).

As noted, there are special "twilight" versions of (most?) stages in the GameCube version. I'm not sure if they have to be unlocked, first, or if you simply select stages with a certain button (like you pick stages with CIRCLE in DBZ3 to get the destroyed version).

I enjoyed the Dragon World too, especially because of the "alternative" storyline.

I've got both the PAL and Japanese version of the PS2 version of B2. It seems the US actors got less lines instead. For example, when jou're gonna fight an enemy which you''ve fought before and there isn't a dialogue programmed, the PAL version just displays a text balloon saying something like "I'm gonna beat you''. The Japanese VA's however speak during the pre-battle moments.

You had to press a few buttons on the controller at the same time and enter then exit the shop and you could see that your percentage of capsules was growing. Once I had finished the Dragon World a few times, that glitch became very useful.

Any Japanese VA or will it be in the PAL one?

Thanks for all the help, but I just figured out how to answer almost all of my own questions about Dragon World. It seems that the controls were actually in the instruction booklet. In my rush to start the game I must have overlooked them. Boy don't I feal dumb.

Just in case anyone is wondering here are the copntrols:
Press Z to scroll around the map.
Press Y to search the spot your on or to end your turn wihtout moving.
Press X to dig for an item or Dragonball.
Press Y instead of A at the level selection screen to select the evening versions of the stages.

You said that I was supposed to unlock Teen/Cell Saga Gohan but after I transferred data, the only characters I had were Goku, Adult/Buu Sage Gohan, Goten, Kid Trunks, Tien, Piccolo, Krillin, and Raditz.

Also is it just me or does anyone else love Tien's Volleyball attack. I was wondering what episode this was actually in Dragonball. I'm pretty sure it was in the Tien saga but I haven't seen those episodes in a while.

Dragon World would of made Budokai 2 a lot better if it had multiplayer :)

I can see it now...fighting it out for control of the planet and/or DragonBall's!

It's not just you, I like it as well. It's a shame that they didn't keep it in Budokai 3. I'm not sure when he uses it in the anime but he uses it against Goku in manga number 11.

That would have been a lot of fun. The player who lost a fight could have been forced to stay on the same spot for two rounds... Yeah, it could have been a great multiplayer game.

Tenshinhan used it on Gokuu in the finals of the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai. :)

Well, since some characters have like 55 attacks (I'm talking about Budokai 3 here), they could have kept the volleyball attack and added the Shin Kikoho (the first one could have been used during the 3rd round of a Dragon Rush, and the second one as the Ultimate attack).

Grammar, please.

There are countless FAQs you can read through on GameFAQs that tell you how to specifically unlock characters, so I'd suggest giving those a look. Probably everything you need.
