Let's have 7 disks instead of 6...email FUNi!

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

Yes I was. And I still stand by it.

However, according to Corey, FUNi use really outdated encoders. And I don't want to take any risks. No one in their right mind would, we want this release to be perfect.
All is true, but even with more advanced encoders, more bitrate = better quality. High quality actually requires more bitrate. What if there is a chance the R1 could surpass the R2 encoding quality? Its possible, but it requires the higher bitrates... thus the request for less eps per disc.

Also, with several of us on the boards actually trying to re-time the subtitles and the audio, I wonder how FUNI is making out with it. That makes me wonder about any english tracks.
English subtitle tracks, or audio? I doubt FUNi would throw in an Eng sub track, considering this is mainly for the Japanese fan base only. It'll just be unnecessary weight.

This is something I'd been planning on doing, but in light of recent events, it may be pointless. Tell me what you guys think:

Should we send in requests to Netflix to have them offer the Dragon Box singles? They have a foriegn section, and I know I'd rent them all...

Anyway, back on subject. How do you all expect FUNi to handle the packaging of an additional disc?

Here's mine
Hello, FUNimation, I have been a supporter of the Dragon Ball franchise since 2001. I would like to thank you for finally releasing the Dragon Boxes in Region 1 format. I am a diehard fan and can't wait to buy these releases. However, I do have one concern - the episode count per disc. The original Region 2 discs contained six episodes per disc and had only one audio track and only one angle, allowing for high quality. However, since these discs will have one extra episode and more audio tracks and a subtitle track, I think that the quality will take a hit, so I think you should lower the episode count to six episode discs to retain quality.

I also have a concern about the dubs. I feel that you should also cater to hardcore fans who also appreciate your dub, specifically the music. I have loved the Bruce Faulconer score for the entire time I have been a fan and it is what I, and other hardcore fans, grew up on. In addition, I also like how you made the effort to adding the Japanese score to the dub in your previous remastered release. That's why I think you should include both Dub BGMs to satisfy both halves of your "Hardcore" fanbase.

And again, thank you for finally releasing these. I can't wait!

Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

What do you mean "in light of recent events"? FUNi listened to us about the Orange Bricks being only 5 discs, then we emailed them asking for 6, and we got 6. :? It's not like we're asking them to do something incredibly complicated.

Wait, do you mean the Japanese Dragon Box singles? Because the Foreign section is for R1 releases of foreign films, if I know my Netflix categories correctly. And they generally go for arty or historical titles in there anyway.

Well, I guess I didn't structure my post very well... When I said "but in light of recent events, it may be pointless" I was refering to my idea about Netflix, which I stated imediately after. I didn't mention the whole seventh disc thing until an entirely new paragraph, and nothing I said before that has anything to do with it. I was not saying this idea is "pointless" or anything.

As far as I know, Netflix offers no Region 2 DVDs.

Seeing as the Singles are R2s and wouldn't play in an American DVD player, it would be pointless. Also, come November, they'll probably put up the FUNiBoxes, as they did with the orange bricks.

Eh? I never knew Netflix has orange bricks. Wow... Most of rental movie companies such as Family Video and Blockbuster barely have a few Dragon Ball related singles.

This may be a stupid question, but since this is directed towards Japanese fans wouldn't there only be the Japanese angles included? The title cards can be presented in English subtitles and the English translation of the opening and ending credits can be an extra or run at the end of the disc (like some of Bandai's). Therefore, I don't think that they would even need alternate angles.
GT is underrated and the International Channel will always be my favorite channel for foreign programming. I still miss it.

As soon as a mod activates my account, I'm gonna put these on the Anime On DVD forums.

That's what I figured. I mean, it seems that what FUNimation is getting at is, "The people buying this wanna watch the Japanese remaster in Japanese without any changes." The English track is probably there in case someone who watched the show casually happens to get it as a gift or something and doesn't know any better.

There is a thread there for the Dragonbox release. I'm not sure if they will allow a second thread.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

This is somewhat weird, but the Japanese title cards are one of my favorite things about the anime. I forgot how natural they looked (obviously) compared to the other Funi angles used in Dragon Ball GT. I know the difference can simply be the type of alphabet used, but the Roman letters sometimes make the card look a tad off.

Now, I'm not sure if they will use the Japanese title cards for both the sub and dub versions, but I wouldn't be shocked if they did.

Now I know that this is tailored for sub fans, but you have to realize that they're still advertising in America, so making sure that everything can still be understood by fans without needing to go to subs is necessary. So I think they should still use alternate angles, with the Dub angle as secondary, obviously.

Fans are whiny, complaining dipshits. If FUNi tried to follow the whims of fandom, they'd go bankrupt before releasing anything and the fans would keep complaining like a bunch of clucking hens.
