I am already upgrading the better parts of my video collection to Blu-ray… but then, I am an early adopter and obsessed with quality, and I don’t think the sub-niche of people like me is big enough to warrant FUNi’s extra investment in such a product. Though I have a sneaking suspicion that that is exactly what we will see several years down the line… I don’t think they will ever stop selling Dragon Ball if they can get away with it.
I'm betting on exactly that. They'll release BluRay Dboxes after these sets sell. That will give the market a little bit more time to mature (how long did it take them to release the Orange Bricks? 3 years?). All we need to do it make enough noise (it apparently worked for the DVD Dboxes).
I keep seeing the same old arguments against a BluRay release which just aren't true (assuming they don't only have the masters in SD, which I doubt). The show is too old or there is too much grain.
The higher resolution is enough to justify the release in my opinion:
DVD vs.
BluRay
Also, the grain is just part of the film, the higher res makes it less noticeable, but its still in the newest of films:
DVD vs. BluRay or
DVD vs. BluRay. (note, the bluray pic here isn't even in full 1080p res)
Click on the links here if you're not truly aware of what BluRay can do better than DVD. You'll see comparisons between
300,
Pirates of the Caribbean,
Casino Royale, etc. etc. Make sure to take advantage of zooming in on each comparison as well (keep in mind the bluray pics aren't in full 1080P which means they actually look better on disc).
