If he cared about em, why stay away from em? You mean to tell me training with a humanoid reptile and a monkey owning bug man or training some underweight kid he barely even knew should be more important than spending time with family?

And, how bout this. He gets one day on earth when he's dead, right? If he really gave a fuck about his family, he would've used that on the day Goten was born, instead of waiting for some fighting tournament!

Y'know, I'm at the point where I believe Krillin is the only real father in the entire series. Goku only cares about fighting and food, preferring to chase monkeys and smash crickets instead of spending time with his sons. Vegeta is a jerkass who would rather train than spend time with his kids. Mark only cares about women and booze. Sure, Krillin and 18 don't do anything really in the series, but at least they give a fuck about Marron!

While I agree with you on Goku being a dickhead, I'm not sure I can blame him for not knowing that, since he was dead and all.

Eh, you'd think with King Kai's ability to see events on the planets in his jurisdiction, he'd be keeping a watchful eye on Gohan and Co., and could alert his favorite student to the development.

He slept through the whole Cell deal. King Kai's just not very vigilant on the whole. The whole Budokai deal only happened because it operates on a schedule.

I think she was all right in the first Dragon Ball - except for well, you know, almost abandoning Son Goku to save her own hide at the pirate's old base. All right being "not the best sort of person, but not bad per-se". She was definitely worse in Z.

As Herms describes, a Q&A/interview section with Akira Toriyama in the book dives into Mr. Satan's character. As we have known, the name "Mr. Satan" is really just his "show" or "ring" name (and no, the dreaded "H-word" has no relevance to this discussion). According to Toriyama, Mr. Satan's actual first name is "Mark". While it seems like a common name, it is actually written out in kana as マーク (mâku or maaku). If you rearrange the syllables, as you would with many names in the series to derive their puns, you end up with akuma (meaning "devil" or "demon"; you may be familiar with the name as the North American name-change of the Street Fighter character otherwise known as "Gouki").

Personally, I love the name. While it has a cute, consistent, underlying pun to keep the family in check, the fact that it is such a common-sounding name really fits with how I feel about him. While I do not particularly love Mr. Satan as a character, you cannot help but feel like he is just some poor, regular ol' guy that consistently gets in way the Hell over his head. "Mark" seems fitting, in that respect.

The Briefs.
Taking a bastard newborn child with you to see the folks who are meant to destroy humanity is real good parenting. When the inevitable shit goes down, Baby Daddy Vegeta doesn't even bother to save them. Almost a decade passes before he shows any affection to his son, and then he explodes. Maybe the family forms an acceptable dynamic by the end of the series but it's pretty damn awful up until then.
