There would be no identification loss when changing Lil Lemmy to just Lemmy. It's totally understandable to have rules set to protect that need for identification, but to just avoiding it by refusal seems to go a little overboard in that respect. And I also understand that no member should receive special treatment, but like VegettoEX said, it's only been brought up 4 times. It's not like this sort of thing happens every day. Why make such a strict policy over an event that occurs less than once a year? What's the point in being so inflexible when it comes to changing names? Especially on something so informal as a message board.

You've been so sweet to stick up for my "rights", Inagadadavida, but in a sense this is already a closed issue.

I agree that going from Li'l Lemmy to Lemmy would be so negligible a change as to nearly negate it being a change at all. But at the same time, I can understand the moderator's reasons for not changing it . . . and in the end, the final decision is his and his alone. He never claimed this forum to be a democracy regardless of how many of us tend to try and shape it into one whenever we disagree with the administration, and while I may not necessarily agree with one decision or another I respect such decisions as authoritative, final and (usually) for the good of all members.

I honestly don't believe that he's trying to be difficult.

I'm not sticking up for you. No offense, but I don't care if your name is changed or not. Part of my reasoning is for the sake of debate and questioning that which hasn't been questioned. The other is that it genuinely seems like a stupid policy to me and I want that to be known.

I really don't see myself as some kind of hero in this situation. I'm just questioning.

In my case, I registered my username back in 2005 with a nickname that I haven't used in years. I then returned to the fandom with this super old account with only 100 posts on it. Is that a worthy excuse?
