As far as I'm concerned, this is locked in.
It costs like 30 cents to make a DVD. In mass production, bulk rates should be even cheaper. This shouldn't be a big deal. I'm confident that either FUNi will compress the data in a way that only six discs are needed
or they'll up the disc count.
I'm not
too worried about it. Even if everything stays the same and there's a technical difference in bitrate that I wouldn't notice with my own eyes unless I looked very, very carefully I won't throw a fit or anything. But, while there's still a chance, why not shoot for the best quality possible, right?

From what I've saw I didn't notice any bitrate change and I'm sure they'll listen and give us 6 eps a disk but who knows, this is FUNi after all.
Also, the Japanese R2 DVDs have 6 eps and at 2GB an episode you have 12GB a disk, add the audio you're going to come close or go over the max 15GB limit for double layered DVDs.

Where are you getting these numbers? A dual-layered disc can only hold 8.5 GB. As such, most of the R2s max out at around 7 or 8 GB total. So if you take the average and divide it by 6, that’s roughly 1.25 GB an episode; not quite 2.
Also, the 15[.9] GB limit only applies to dual-layered, double-sided discs, of which the Japanese Dragon Boxes are not. As for FUNi, I think it’s safe to assume they will
not be using those, as no release from them thus far has used them, no artwork can be applied to them, and it’s pointless when they can just as easily (if not more cheaply) print a separate disc for the extra content.

Well I can't say I'm sorry they won't be using double-sided discs, even if they are dual-layered.

I'm just throwing this out there but maybe the sixth disc will be a double layered DVD sorta like in the Scooby-Doo, Where Are You season 3 DVD set. Still hope we get 7 disc cuz I want the cover art on the disc from the real DBOXs and the best quality possible.
Aka gtadbzman.

Seeing the mockup box in person at Comic Con makes me believe that FUNi is capable of fitting 8 discs in them.

Yeah, that's what I said before. The Japanese Dragon Box's little disc book case thingies held 4 discs per case. FUNi looks like they have two of those cases in their Dragon Box, so that makes room for eight discs. So it wouldn't be too hard for them to put four discs in one case and three in the other.

That's what I noticed as well looking at the pics.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Or both cases could have 3 discs each. (owned)
Kidding aside I really hope they do up the disc count, paying out the wazoo for the footage only to have it not be absolutely perfect, even if it isn't noticeable, seems like a huge waste.

I think it should be 7 discs for the show and one extras disc.

Well, after putting it off for a while, I decided to send my email. Hopefully this will work, guys!
Dear FUNimation,
Thank you so much for your many years of work in the anime industry. You release some of my favorite titles, including One Piece, and the Dragon Ball series. I'm absolutely ecstatic that you've chosen to cater to the "hardcore" fanbase by releasing the Japanese "Dragon Box" footage on DVD. Fans have been talking about how unlikely it was that this amazing footage would be released here in America.
But you guys are making it happen, and I'm very thankful. However, I do have one concern. When your company announced its release of DBZ "Season 1," there was a planned 5 discs. However, fans emailed, and suggested that you raise the disc count to 6, in order to achieve better video quality on the release.
I've noticed that you're planning to release the Dragon Box with 6 disks. With the multiple audio tracks present, and the fact that the Japanese Dragon Box sets used seven disks for the 42 episodes to be released in this first set, I suggest upping the planned disk count. This may cost more, but I'm willing to pay a few extra dollars if I get the best possible quality.
Could you please let me know that you received this? I'd very much appreciate it. Thank you for your time.
