English Dragon Box Release

I just read the massive Feature. Cheers for the Dragon Boxes in America, but I'm still unclear on one thing. Has there been confirmation that the footage from these upcoming US Dragon Boxes actually IS the footage from the JPN Dragon Boxes? Is it still within the realm of possibility that FUNi could be repackaging the Orange Brick episodes under the Dragon Box moniker?
I'm sorry if this has already been addressed; I'm not entirely comfortable with the idea of skimming 100+ pages with zero sleep.

Umm... just call me Remy, already. :p
I think the trailer is enough evidence.Kiriyama BRX wrote:I just read the massive Feature. Cheers for the Dragon Boxes in America, but I'm still unclear on one thing. Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

I don't think Funimation is retarded enough to do that.Kiriyama BRX wrote:I just read the massive Feature. Cheers for the Dragon Boxes in America, but I'm still unclear on one thing. The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

On the other hand, they could still have the real deal and the very best of intentions and still screw it up. They've messed up so much that when they do something right it almost feels like they've stumbled into it, like a more hit-and-miss version of Mr. Magoo.Kunzait_83 wrote:Famous last words...Raki wrote:I don't think Funimation is retarded enough to do that.![]()

I just read the feature and I'm now hyped about the American release of the Dragon Box(es) (I considered getting the Japanese Dragon Box quite a few times over the years but never did because I don't speak nearly enough Japanese to fully enjoy them). But now I wonder if thoses boxes will be region free. I'm not a big fan of the French DBZ DVD releases and I'd rather buy the Dragon Box.
So my question is : do we know if the boxes will be region free ?

Great thanks ! I bought some DBZ movie DVDs in the States a few years ago and was wondering if they were still making "region free" DVDs.The Time Traveller wrote:All of Funimation's Dragon Ball DVDs are Region 2 and 4 as well as 1, so it'll play it France.LaRésistance wrote:So my question is : do we know if the boxes will be region free ?

Of course they are. Steve Simmons is awesome.Krakabeast wrote:Any idea if FUNi is putting the same subtitles on the DBox that were found on the season sets? Are they accurate to the original script?

Thanks Big Boss, I didn't know we had the "subtitler" on these forums. It's a small world after all.Big Boss wrote:Of course they are. Gohan: At least he doesn't have his sword out anymore.
Kuririn: Yeah, and your dad put his finger away too.

Not entirely true. The movies double features were region 1 only, even though the covers said 124. I own a region free dvd player, so I don't mind, but I would wait for a confirmation on the region if you're actually region bound... But yeah, there a very (veeery) good chance these will be region 124 tooThe Time Traveller wrote:All of Funimation's Dragon Ball DVDs are Region 2 and 4 as well as 1

Since Funi has a good track record with multi-regional DVDs, I'd say that all of the foreigners here have nothing to worry about.

Oh yes, I forgot about that, I bought 3 of them and got pissed that I couldn't use my downstairs player, but I'm expecting a new Region Free player in the mail for the downstairs...Arika wrote:Not entirely true. £10 for delivery, you'd think it would be here after 1 week...
In any case, I don't give a shit what region it is.
Perhaps this is cynical, but I expect TOEI is letting go of the dragon box masters because they have more planned for Dragon Ball just yet... perhaps a color-corrected HD version similar to the treatment Hokuto no Ken received? I know Kei thinks it will happen. So they'll still ahve the upper hand.
Me? I'm good with just the dragon boxes.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
I couldn't disagree more! I want to play it through my damn HDMI port in my PS3.The Time Traveller wrote:Oh yes, I forgot about that, I bought 3 of them and got pissed that I couldn't use my downstairs player, but I'm expecting a new Region Free player in the mail for the downstairs...![]()
