Thanks for the information, but I read it the first time and left it alone. To me it is no big deal just as the Season sets but since this is supposed to be of better quality (not too big a difference from the Season sets IMO), I did not finish purchasing the Season sets I will go ahead and get these. My best friend’s nephew desired my Season sets so I will give those to him and keep the Dragonboxes when I purchase all of them and call it a day.
The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.

For the later sets, cropping aside, I'd definitely agree with you, because I'm really not as big of a videophile as some here. But can you really say that the first few sets, ESPECIALLY the Season Two set, didn't look simply horrible? Even to the naked, not-too-picky eye, I just accepted it because I got it for $0.50 per episode and didn't have to hunt down singles.Saiyan-Professor wrote:To me it is no big deal just as the Season sets but since this is supposed to be of better quality (not too big a difference from the Season sets IMO)
Hey, this year is the 25th anniversary of Dragon Ball! Turns out he predicted it correctly!Dayspring in a Season One review thread wrote:Thanks. I think I'll get it.
Anybody else think FUNi's waiting until the 25th anniversary of DB to release the boxsets we thought this would be?

I think it should just be a pre-order bonus. I wouldn't want anything to increase the price of these.SparkyPantsMcGee wrote:I was listening to the podcast, and I hope they keep the walkie-talkie Scouters. I want one!

Anyway, I fixed the Vol. 3 design. Anyone wanna add text?

I know it won't end up as the cover, but this is fun.

Yeah, it should be 85-126. EDIT: FUNimation said that they're still trying to figure out what bgm they want to use since they just got the Dragon Box license:

Funimation shouldn't be debating over which dub should be included. Which dub has been selling for several years now? I wouldn't be surprised if only 5% of the dubbies considered listening to the dub w/ original bgm over the U.S. broadcast. The other 95% went to setup and switched to the U.S. broadcast. I agree with Mike, as it only was a curiosity. It's by far too late for Funimation to be switching dub tracks.

Don't misunderstand me... I agree that the old broadcast dub should be abandoned and closed off forever. If FUNimation's new sets are going to mirror the Japanese sets in so many ways, that means they are (as I described it in the big feature), "genuinely caring for the series on an artistic and historical level."Krakabeast wrote:Funimation shouldn't be debating over which dub should be included. Think about other series that finally received this treatment. Look at Macross. It received not only a new remastered print and a new translation... but Hell, it received an entirely accurate new dub that of course used the original score. What happened to Robotech? Sure, it still exists... but off as its own entity (with its own separate release) which no longer affects the original version.
I know, I know... Macross + Southern Cross + Mospeada is a far cry from FUNi + DBZ, but the overall point remains.
It's time for DBZ to finally receive the same gosh darn treatment. Never once has the Japanese version ever affected FUNimation's precious dub, so please give us one time that the opposite can happen.
As poor as the mixing was with the Dub + JP score on the season sets, this is the direction they need to move with for the series. Let the old image with the old dub (which is ironic in-and-of-itself since they have two of their own dubs for two seasons...) fade into memory. Let the show as it's always been intended to be viewed finally shine for once after fifteen years in this country.
Quite frankly, their in-house dub is no longer relevant. It no longer fits with the new & hip image they've always tried to make it, and it has little-to-no nostalgia cred (unlike the genuine original). They can't market it as either "new hotness" or "awesome old show", so they might as well embrace the... ya' know... actual old show that it is.

Does anybody know the font style used for the Dragon Box covers?

I agree that the series should be released as intended, even if it is awkward to watch. I'm just saying that from a business standpoint, Funimation would want to stick with what has been selling well for years. No matter the price, I'm sure casual fans will still be picking this up and will be expecting what they saw on Toonami some years ago to be there. I know that $80 price tag wouldn't have stopped me from getting it even when I was a kid. As for me, I'll be watching it subbed and dubbed, no matter which dub track will be on it.VegettoEX wrote:Don't misunderstand me... That may be true, but we must also consider that the majority of fans in this country, possibly an overwhelming one, are in fact after FUNimation's dub and not the original version. The FUNiboxes are marketed for an extremely small niche of what is otherwise a large fanbase of dub-centric people. This release is not particularly aimed at them, but they will be buying it nonetheless via either informed or uninformed decisions. The first Box potentially can't succeed in a way to warrant further releases without at least some of the dub fans' support, and that support counts on the dub being present and not forgotten.VegettoEX wrote:Quite frankly, their in-house dub is no longer relevant. The Japanese version is inherently superior in every way, but in this country it will always be at least somewhat obscured by the shadow of its flawed English dub.
