Questions about Manga

Post by ChaotixXero » Wed Dec 29, 2004 8:31 pm

I've never read any manga before. Can you answer these questions?

1.Are they in color?
2.Is there anyplace on the net I can read the manga (if its legal)? :?

Nope. =D Most manga is in stylish black & white. Although some start every chapter with a few colour pages.

And nope. =D It's illegal to download any manga that's been licensed in your country. (Not that it stops people >.>;; )

Dragon Ball has a few colored pages that start off the issues, and there are some portions of the manga done in color. And yes, you can read the manga without illegally downloading it by going to the U.S. Shonen Jump website and watching the "flash manga" they have there. I think it's also on a Japanese Jump website as well.
I highly recommend reading the manga. It's published in many countries in many different languages, and price really isn't an issue. Unless you're me.

You can order off of the Viz website, if you want the Viz translations. They cost about $8 each and they have every volume.

Therefore reading them off the internet is legal in the UK, since they don't sell here? I get some mangas off Amazon.co.uk from time to time.
Fry: Wow. The jungles on Mars look like the jungles on Earth.
Prof. Farnsworth: Jungles? On Earth? (laughs)

Nonetheless it's best to support it. I was buying Japanese manga before very many titles at all were licensed over here. =/

sadly if you live in the UK there are not too many places to buy the manga. You might get lucky and find a bookshop with some manga in, but the mainstream over here is Battle Royale and the big Akira books.

Online is the best place, and if you live near, or can make the journey to a Forbidden Planet, or specialist store, then that's worth it.

Hope that helps.

And, in my viz bokks the colour pages are in black and white. Where can you read those bits in colour? Shonen Jump? Or anywhere else?

In the issues of Jump they're in color but for some reason in the graphic novels, they're not.

That's just how it's done with tankoubon releases. Color pages are printed in greyscale... it's cheaper for the mass-production. The original color prints appeared in the original Weekly Jump issues, and have all been re-included in the kanzenban release.

Occasionally US Jump will publish some color chapters, but not all of them.
