Kuriza: Would he be considered canon?

Post by Pain » Fri Jul 31, 2009 1:04 am

Yes, he was in Neko Majin, but that was a parody of Dragonball, right? So does this mean that he just doesn't exist, at all? Does Toriyama mention him anytime after Neko Majin? And is he even considered canon?

Is there any reason to consider him canon or non-canon, other than to be able to say, "he's canon" or "he's not canon"? I don't mean to be difficult or shoot down your topic, but without a reason for wondering I don't think it makes a difference if he is or isn't.

Well for one, if Kuriza is canon, it means there are more people of Freeza's race (at least one female). Since it's never stated whether Cold and Freeza are the last of their kind, it's interesting to find out.
It's all GOOD

It depends so much on your definition of canon. If you consider Toriyama's other works canon, than sure, he's canon.

KURIZA! I wanted that to be my username, but it was taken. I have such an obsession with him.

But no, I would say he isn't canon.

As you say, it would be interesting to know either things. But neither one has any bearing on anything, so you might as well say anything.

I think distinguishing canon and non-canon is only important for the writers themselves (to avoid inconsistencies -- Piccolo blowing up baby Goku's pod, for instance, Toriyama would probably consider non-canon) and for when we're having arguments like...

"Vegeta said this about Super Saiyans. That's evidence that etc etc."
"That line's non-canon though, so it wasn't in Toriyama's mind when he wrote this part."

They wouldn't all be "canon" to Dragonball though would they? As I understand it not a lot of people would consider all the events Dr. Slump to be canon to DB, despite the cameo chapters that set them in the same world.

I think that's what he means by 'if you consider'. Some people try to fit all of Toriyama's stuff (or as much of it as possible) into the same universe. Like I said, it doesn't make much difference whether you want to consider them personal canon or not, in my opinion.

And yes, I know that makes no sense

Well since Kuriza was included in a video game, I think he is to an extent. We hardly ever get characters in a game that did not show up in the anime except for Soba. Yet, even Soba could have been a behind the scenes character because we do not know what exactly transpired on Yardrat. So in my opinion Kuriza as well as Soba could be considered “canon” of the anime continuity if you want to look at it that way.

That wouldn't be too hard. Freeza, the most tyrannical being in the universe, gives space whores a choice: hold still or die.

He's as canon as Table.

That depends. Is the table made of mahogany?

Thanks. I was worried it was too much of a stretch (what with Enma having a desk, not a table).
