Why does the forum go down?

Post by Rory » Sat Aug 01, 2009 8:00 am

Nono, I'm not bitching, I'm just genuinley curious, why does the forum sometimes simply go down for several days in a row?
Is it a failure to pay fpor bandwidth, or is it too many users crash the server?

There's a set amount of bandwidth a month. If it gets used up, you have to wait for the first of next month (usually an hour or two before midnight Hawaii time) for it to reset for the next month. It hasn't happened for the past few months. I guess the Dragon Box news caused a lot of extra traffic.

Apparently this bandwidth limit won't be a problem when the forum gets moved to a new server, but I don't know much about that.

I'd have to say that the reason that this hasn't really happened in the past (that I could tell anyway) compared to now is due to the Dragon Box thread. That thing probably ate away at the forum's monthly bandwidth faster than usual, I mean I'm sure everyone saw how quickly it was growing when the announcement initially got out.

Heh, it's me! In the months I was gone, the bandwidth was fine, but I showed up again, and being the evil evil man that I am, I sucked it all away! MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA*cough*HAHAHAHAHAHA! :P

Pretty much. Back when the Special came out, DBE came out and Kai started airing (all kinda in a row, if you think about it) the forum was going down about a week before the end of the month. It's been good until now, so it's probably the Dragon Box's fault.

By the way, I think the forum address will change once it's moved to a new server.

Yeah, I was awful surprised, this is the first time it's gone down since March.

I am glad it comes back up at the beginning of each month, though, because my birthday is on August 1st.

Well, I could be equally wrong.
