To less Christian things...

I've noticed some variations in the dubs of DBE.

First off, in the Spanish, and Portuguese dub AFAIK Geeko isn't there. The script seems to deviate a little from the English one every now and then, but is mostly faithful. I didn't watch all of the French dub since I don't know enough French.

Only in the Spanish version they have their Goku saying "DragonBall Evolution" for the title cards at the beginning and at the end.

As well, both the Portuguese and Spanish dubs play Ayumi Hamasaki's "Rule" durring the main credit role before the epilogue. The English and French tracks play "Rule" after the Piccolo epilogue. Durring the main credit role in the English and French tracks they play what I assume is a track from Brian Tyler's score. The same track is used in the Spanish and Portuguese tracks after the Piccolo epilogue.

I think the menu music is from Brian Tyler. I don't own the score or soundtrack, so I'm not certain, but it sounds some what like the track the plays on Scene 11, when Roshi is training Goku on Yamcha's modified Hummer.

The Canadian cover art is interesting because of the French on it. The cover art wasn't that good in the first place, so Fox decided to put "DRAGONBALL EVOLUTION" then in the same font, directly underneath the English, but in a smaller size, they put "DRAGONBALL ÉVOLUTION" then "Édition Z Edition". It was pretty weird especially since the words are spelt with the same letters just with an accent on the "e"s. The spine is truly weird because it says "DRAGONBALL EVOLUTION" directly followed by "DRAGONBALL ÉVOLUTION" in the exact same size. Gah.

If I'm truly bored I'll post some pictures of the weirdness that is the Canadian cover art. As well as a cast list, because some of the movie-only characters who weren't named in the actual movie have names there.

Anyone ever get the feeling that this will sort of be the Season Set release for DBE? Where it's cheap, marketed towards the "hXc DBZ Linkin Parkers" ADD crowd? I kind of get the feeling one day we'll see a longer cut, or a release with more special features, and Ayumi Hamasaki instead of Brian Anthony. Because the "Z Edition" thing kind of implies there is more then one release...
dragondyle wrote: But I think its an okay movie and entertaining, but its a horrible adaptation and pisses me off. Even more so after watching the deleted scenes! They should have kept them in. Wouldn't save the movie from getting any better, but would have made it a bit longer (it was too short for me). Gohan teaching Goku about ki, Goku lifting the car to get his bike and showing his strength, and Roshi explaining the Piccolo offspring thingys to Goku seems pretty important to me. Why did they even cut out what they did?
Fox believes all of the movie goers have ADD and can't sit still for more then an hour and a half... Not really, Fox is notorious for forcing directors to edit down their movies to under 100 minutes (I've looked at my DVD shelf, and of the few recent Fox movies I own, none, unless a Director's Cut, are longer then 100 minutes). The reason being is so they can fit in as many showings on one screen in a theatre as they can in a single day. That only works if the movie theatre is packed. But even that's flawed when you consider a 2 and a half hour Michael Bay movie about giant fighting robots can outgross most if not all the movies Fox has released this year.

Canadian Cover 'Cause I'm Bored!
ImageImage

The disc art is exactly the same as the American one. French not included.

Cast List:

Goku ... Justin Chatwin
Roshi ... Chow Yun Fat
Bulma ... Emmy Rossum
Chi Chi ... Jamie Chung
Lord Piccolo ... James Marsters
Yamcha ... Joon Park
Mai ... Eriko
Gohan ... Randall Duk Kim
Sifu Norris ... Ernies Hudson
Carrey Fuller ... Texas Battle

Seki ... Megumi Seki - She's the girl who Mai holds the gun to in the village, I assume she was kidnapped by Mai and/or Piccolo to do something with the young girl's life as the exchange. In a perfect world Piccolo recruited her to nurse one of his offspring while Mai and himself gather the DragonBalls. It would explain the Piccolo in the epilogue.
Oozaru ... Ian Whyte - I assume he was either the guy in the suit, unless they got a human to voice the Oozaru yells?
Agundes ... Richard Blake - He's the guy who Fuller is with after Fuller runs over Goku's bike.
Moreno ... Jon Valera
Butler ... Rafael Valdez
Hildenbrand ... Mike Wilson
Palmer ... Freddy Bouciegues

No clue who exactly these guys are. I assume they're the people Goku beats up at Chi-Chi's party. One may potentially be the guy Chi Chi kicks in the face.
Emi ... Shavon Kirksey - She's the girl who talks to Chi Chi in the hallway when her locker wouldn't open.
Mr. Kingery ... Julian Sedgwick - Goku's teacher
Weaver ... Luis Arrieta - For the guy who got a lot of flack for apparently replacing Krillin, and being Goku's friend he's only seen in one shot, and he only talks once, when he answers a question about the Solar Eclipse in Mr. Kingery's class. You seem him when the camera goes to the reactions of the students when Goku talks about the Nameks. He's the blonde haired one stting next to Emi.
Avatar ... Gabriela De La Garza - You can see here on screen when Bulma is in Paozu looking for Roshi while Goku is eating the Turkey leg.
Referee ... Richie Cordobes - You can see him around the Chi Chi Vs. Mai tournament fight.

They missed a potentially decent reference to the series with Goku's school. For some reason it's called Unitech High School, they should have went with Orange Star...

Gosh I'm bored...

I'm in no hurry to buy it, I can wait for it to drop lower in price. But I hardly ever buy DVDs.

Fox is certainly promoting the DVD a lot more than they promoted the theatrical release. I see a ton of ads online.

And yet--knowing what the review was going to be like before entering said site--you still went in. Honestly, what did you expect, a good laugh at the expense of a parent over the internet so as to feel superior and cool because you're rebelling against the preestablished traditions of our forefathers?
Those type of sites tend to overreact, as well as make us normal Christian folk look bad.
I didn't feel superior or cool entering the site. I just wanted to read the review. Yes, I knew that it was a Christian review site, but I didn't know that the review would be so dull and would criticize every little thing. I mean, since when are making jokes about "Breaking Wind" a bad thing? If so, I'm sure that they'd scold the hell out of Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon.

And of course I'm rebelling! Don't you know of my occupation? I like the Dub and the Sub! I like the Budokai and the Sparking! series! I enjoyed Dragonball: Evolution to a certain degree!

It wasn't terrible or anything, a lot of what it says is actually perfectly valid. It even tries to find meaning in the line "the first rule is... there are no rules" beyond being a cheesy, cliché opening line.

But you'd have to be a completely over-conscious, conservative parent to consider everything in that.

The ending was... strange ...
Forget about Chi Chi's short skirt. It's chi, magic and frenetic violence that bounce these dragonballs right out of the dragon nest.
Huh? :?
Those type of sites tend to overreact, as well as make us normal Christian folk look bad.
There are certain sects of Christianity that are very reactionary and very conservative, and even though a lot of what they say is actually very true, a lot of it is just close-minded nonsense with no grounding in Bible (or in some cases, Bible quotes are taken out of context). Calvinism, elements of Catholism and other such sects fall into that category.

Not sure the website represents that kind of Christian fundamentalist though, just think it's very conservative in many areas.
In a nutshell: Likes the sub and the dub and barely ever posts.

Being a Christian, PluggedInOnline is one of the primary places I check for movie reviews before I see them.

Insofar as kids' movies go, whoever said that they're more of a "guide for parents" would be correct. It naturally holds to somewhat different definitions of "family-friendly" than other sources would. That can be kind of annoying for us older "kids" who don't really need any extra help in being discerning anymore.

Ya' know Chu, I've agreed with you pretty much every step of the way about... practically everything about this movie. But I will say this, I did like a couple of actors in the film. Give James Marsters some slightly better prosthetic work & actual screen-time beyond cameo material, Chow Yun Fat a shaved head (or baldcap) and some facial hair, they'd be perfect for Piccolo and Roshi in my book. Though they're the only actors I'd want kept. Chatwin, that wooden not-a-Goku idiot has to be gone. Well... put Emmy Rossum in a couple acting classes (and a blue wig!), maybe I wouldn't mind her as Bulma in a reboot.

And you're seriously gonna put the new special we had last year in that category?
Super Saiyan Prime wrote:Because the "Z Edition" thing kind of implies there is more then one release...
In my opinion, "Z Edition" implies this is as good as Fox believes it will give us. They know the American cut had slightly more footage than those overseas and they figure a marketing scheme might help, so they call it "Z Edition". Also, according to the deleted scenes, there'd be nothing of much else worth to include in the film unless ya' wanna hear Earnie Hudson say "Lord Piccolo, Nameks" or see Mai die a 'PG-13' death. To make DBE any better, one would have to do a very hard effort fanedit and in that case, it'd end up shorter.

It's $15 at Walmart, that's too expensive? I'm surprised you, the number 1 supporter of the film, haven't gotten the DVD yet. Especially since, if I remember right, you've said this is how Fox will best present it.

Someone please tell me how religion or being a Christian got into this thread's discussion.

This, more-or-less.

I enjoyed the few scenes Marsters had, and I felt he would've liked to do more with the role. However, I doubt he'll feature as the main villain in the next installment, so there'll be little chance for him to show us some true menace as Piccolo.

As of Bulma, I'm not sure if even giving Rossum acting classes can save the character she's trying to portray... whatever that character may be. The blue wig might help though... :) at least we'll be given something to look at other than her never-changing facial expression.

Also, getting Brian Tyler on board for the score again, is a must.

Emmy is a Golden Globe nominated, Critics Choice award winner. Something tells me she doesn't need acting classes. If she had better direction maybe she wouldn't have had one emotion the entire movie. It's kind of clear that DBE was kind of a "whatever pays the bills" kind of deal for her.

There is really something wrong with me, I hated this movie..But every time I'm out I scan the Blu-Ray section for it.

I shudder to think what will happen when it eventually is there.

Has anyone listened to this podcast?

It's very interesting, they have Randall Duk Kim (Gohan in the movie) as a guest, and he says some very interesting stuff regarding the movie.

Guy: It didn't do well in America but world-wide, the movie made a profit.
Randall Duk Kim: Isn't that amazing?
Guy: Yeah because of the manga influence, that's what it is.
Randall Duk Kim: Aah.
Guy: DragonBall was a stretch here in the US but I knew it would do well worldwide because of the following it has as a manga.
Randall Duk Kim: Well to be truthful, when I auditioned for it, I apologized to the casting director that I hadn't seen the manga version. And I knew nothing about it. And they said oh that's good, because we're updating it or something. We're changing it. I thought to myself; wow, if it has such a huge fanbase, won't it offend that fanbase? To begin making changes?
Guy: Yeah exactly.
Randall Duk Kim: I was really concerned about that.

Wow that's very Intresting and at the same time annoying. It's like they don’t care when they said "oh that's good, because we're updating it or something." Well by looking at the end product of the movie, they really didn’t care.

My local Walmart had three slots for the DVDs, they were packed full. I guess it matters where you live. Anyway, I haven't picked up a copy yet, I'll get it eventually.
