Wow, amazingly enough, I've found a dub worse than season 3.
They just sound like they're dicking around, and Freeza sounds like some annoying clown.
As much as I had Young, I'd pick her over this guy.

*is not* an attack on an individual's (or a group's) personal character. Do not interpret it as such.
I know I know, but when you look back on it The actors chosen for their roles in the series were all fresh with little to no experience. So yea Season 3 sucked, but the original post really shows how great they have become as a whole. If they were to go back and redub everything from scratch The show would feel as close to the original as possible.
Yea I get it, they aren't the original Japanese actors but they have done the best job out of any dubbing company out there. Of course that statement was just opinion but there is a reason FUNimation is one of the top companies in the business. I just get annoyed(and its not just here) when people bad mouth or insult the DUB, because 8-10 people here were probably introduced to Dragonball and Anime as a whole by this DUB.
...2 pages too late but whatever...

I'd argue that the quality of their dubbing is far from one of the top reasons why they're actually successful.

What is one of the top reasons why they are succesful, then?

To each his one when it comes to taste but there is no arguing that these actors have a following. There is a reason DBZ was one of the top shows on CN back when it was airing, why the orange bricks sold like hot cakes even though the quality was far from Superior and why(as far as I'm aware) the FUNi cast has become the standard english dub when it comes to videogames.
Now again there is no arguing that back then in their early years that dub was bad but they have grown Tremendously. Bust Limit, while brief, was a good example on how the English cast has really improved their skills and how if they were to re-dub the series they could really come close to being on the level of the Japanese.
Again that is my opinion, but there is no arguing that these guys have become successful because of their skill. I mean if they really sucked Dragonball wouldn't have taken off here in America like it has.

Eh... What's your point though? Voice acting isn't hard. Yeah they've improved, but I'd say that the cast is probably the least important aspect of the driving force of Dragon Ball's popularity in America. Keep in mind, I'm a fan of the dub too, so this isn't a backhanded attempt at trashing the FUNimation dub. I honestly believe that the show became popular because of the action and story. It probably wouldn't matter who played who, as long as the casting was appropriate and the acting was believable. As far as the sales of the season sets go, I'd say that nostalgia played the biggest role, not the actors.

Yea but you forget, When Ocean did the Dubbing in America the show didn't really take off. I remember watching it as a kid but I was part of a very small group of children. It wasn't until 1999-2000 when FUNimation took over that the show really kicked off. Everyone in school had the shirts, the toys the movies if you were a boy in my school chances are you loved DBZ.
As for the Voice Acting isn't hard comment, that is very un-true. Sure any idiot can stand behind a mic and start taking just like any idiot can go in front of a camera and make a movie, that doesn't make it good. There needs to be something there, I can not tell you how many times I have been turned off by piss poor voice acting in games and movies.
Kids aren't stupid, they are easy but they aren't stupid. If something sounds horrible they won't bother watching or playing it.
You are most likely right about the season sets though.

Yeah it couldn't have been things like the time slot being switched around or the story arc changing to something more interesting or the fact that it was less censored or the general interest of a "new dub" from Japanese fans of the show. So on and so fourth.

It's damn hard to make a product that's actual worth the thousands of dollars of money that goes into it.

All I know is I had a VHS of the ocean Dub Dragonball that I showed to friends when the show started getting popular and one of them said Vegeta sounded retarded.

It's hardly a concrete fact I have signed in blood by just-about-every-voice-actor, but I'm sure if you asked if it's hard, they'd confirm such.
While the Dragon Ball dubs might seem like the actors are just doing one take of a line with no craft going into how to deliver, I'd say that's a glaringly false accusation. But what do I know?

EXCUSE me!? As a voice actor myself, I kinda take offense to this. Only "kinda" because anyone who says it isn't hard clearly isn't in the buisness.

Sarcasm will get you no where. Its not the end all be all...after all this is all opinion based. However it brings up the point that people, even kids, know what they want and have specific tastes. There is a reason Funimation's Dragonball took off faster than Ocean Dubs and that is because the kids had a preference. Regardless of your specific opinion(or mine) the general audience took to liking the FUNimation Cast just like the Japanese took to liking the original cast. If they had truly sucked...then Dragonball probably wouldn't have been as big as it has been(in America) and the fan base would still be a small group of people looking for bootlegged fansubs.
