Anyone find Dr. Slump before discovering Dragon Ball?

Post by gallagtor » Fri Aug 07, 2009 7:59 pm

Everyone knows Dr. Slump was pretty popular in Japan before Toriyama even started on Dragon Ball, but it seems that nearly everyone living in English speaking countries (Or at least everyone I know) was a Dragon Ball fan before they'd even heard of Dr. Slump. I was curious if there is anyone out there that was already a fan of Toriyama's work before discovering Dragon Ball.

My half brother, who was Japan when DB started. He saw Slump first. He liked it. But he liked Dragonball more.

To be honest, I just got to know Dr. Slump after DB. But I'm happy I got to know it, period.

I heard of Dr Slump at the same time as I heard of Dragon Ball. I was an anime (and animation in general) fan before it started becoming popular on TV with things like Pokemon and such. I knew of Dragon Ball due to it's popularity and because it was in an anime guide book I had, but had never seen it. Dr Slump was also in the guide, so I knew it was Toriyama's older work.

I guess I didn't read Dr Slump until after I'd seen Dragon Ball Z dubbed though.

I heard of Dr. Slump through Dragon Ball. The end of the General Blue arc was my introduction to the characters. I later went to the store and read some of the Manga.

I was a fan of Chrono Trigger before I knew of Dragonball. The art-style drew me into Dragonball and after that I discovered Dr. Slump.

That would have been a fascinating experience for me. I wonder if I would have liked it as a child.

That has nothing to do with the topic, but it is true.

I got into DragonBall first, but I did get into Dr. Slump via Toriyama World's scanslations before reading the RR arc, so for me the crossover felt like an actual crossover rather than the "who the hell are these people?" moment I imagine it is for most DB fans who aren't familiar with Slump.

When I saw Arale I was like "Awesome" even though I didn't know who she was.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Next year I'll be trying to get one or two of the Slump Boxes, which are like Dragon Boxes...

I'm pretty much like everyone else, knew it from Dragon Ball.

I bought all of the manga, but I plan on buying the Kanzenban in the future.

Although I'm not sure about it, I think the anime was dubbed in Arabic in the past, but I can't find it anywhere. It's really old.

When will I'll be able to see it?! *stares at FUNimation*

When I was first getting into Dragonball Z, one of my friends came back from Japan with an assortment of videos as souveniers for his friends, I got first pick between Dr. Slump and a few other movies I'd heard off. Knowing that Akira Toriyama also wrote Dr. Slump, I picked that one and watched it raw a bunch of times, I love it :D

I was very excited when I started watching the original Dragonball episodes and they had a crossover episode :D
