Note

The Harmony Gold Dub of DB actually reach until episode 57, and there's a proof.......

there's actually 2 latin american dubs of classic dragonball, and the very first one was released in the early 90's, direct to video, and it uses the HG dub as a source, with his names (Goku - Zero), but since that dub was cancelled, it was discontinued in mexico......

years later, about in 1993 - 1994 (i guess) Intetrack Brough the rights to do a new dub of dragonball, however they used as a source the same Harmony Gold Source for the dub, but restoring the original names of the characters, however it was obviously the HG dub since it had tons of censoship from the source dub, as well as a kiddy script.

in the original TV airings in local TV of the second and regular version of DB, some episodes swith dubs to the 1st latin dub (the Latin HG Dub) like the very 1st episodes when goku fight the red ribbon army, as well of the pirate's cave episodes, however Cartoon Network of Latin America did re air this episodes with the regular "Standard Dub" Instead

in mexico, Intetrack began dubbing the series direct from the original japenese version since the Tao pai pai episodes, since there's no censorship in this version (altough the TV syndicated television network TELEVISA did censorhsip a coulpe of scenes suchas as goku flashback when he remove bulma's panties, altough CN LA did show this part uncensored).

and that's some history.....

Well, I guess it's possible that Harmony Gold dubbed the first 57 episodes and just didn't air that many because of how crappy it was doing on TV. Thanks for the info. :D

It's not perfect, and a few of the actors (Peter Kelamis, Terry Klassen, Matt Smith) suck ass, but most of the cast is amazing and the music I like even better than Shunsuke Kikuchi's (I am probably the only person of this forum who thinks that) .Brian Drummond as Vegeta and Scott McNeil as Piccolo are the best english VA's the characters have ever had, and there are a few voices that I prefer to the japanese version. Brad Swaile as Gohan and Brian Dobson as Boo send shivers down my spine every time I hear them (and they're FUNi actors were some of the worst IMO). Most people here are gonna say I'm insane, but I stand by my beliefs.
Pretty sure Peter wasn't in that dub. There were various voice actors for Goku durring that dub, including Kirby Morrow (notable as Miyroku from InuYasha among other roles).
"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.

My inference from how things shook out is that Toei probably came up with all the weird name changes and the theme song and marketed it that way to make it more palatable to overseas buyers. They probably did an international edit of the video and provided some terrible english scripts. Wasn't the common rumour that the original DBZ dub is based off of weird-direct-from-Toei translations?

Anyway, some of these practices were fairly common back then from what I know, and Enoki films still does it to this day:

Here, check out what they produced for Utena: http://www.enokifilmsusa.com/library/ursula.htm

And then check out what they actually did to Jikuu Tantei Genshi-kun, or, Flint the Time Detective as we know it: http://www.enokifilmsusa.com/library/flint.htm You have to imagine that Fox Kids just took Enoki's documents verbatim and dubbed it that way.
My favorite movie henchman is Sancho.

Follow my stupid crap on Twitter. Please note, I do not have time to reply to any PMs about color correction methods anymore; sorry about that.
