Ma-zoku

Post by alakazam^ » Tue Jan 04, 2005 10:52 pm

What's with Dragon Ball World's Ma-zoku? How can an alien become a demon or the king of them (Piccolo Daimaou)? What do you think modified him at such extension? Mr. Popo tells us about his traumatic childhood (was that filler?), but how can that change a "person" into a real demon? Was Piccolo Daimaou the "boss" of Garlick Jr. and his minions? If so, why did they treated Piccolo like just an average Joe? And finally, what's with Makyou-sei?

Well, start posting.

It's not that Piccolo was an actual demon. He was just so vile and wicked as if he were a demon, so it's just like a title. There's no clear cut demonic race in Dragon Ball, as there are all kinds of demons (such as traditional Japanese mythological demons, religious demons, etc). I always speculated that if perhaps the Garlic Jr. thing did in fact happen in the DB timeline, Piccolo Daimaou must have been in leagues with Garlic, since both their backstories of wreaking havoc on Earth begin after Kami-sama took the throne. According to the Garlic story, that Makyou-sei or whatever is the planet that Garlic came from.
I was voted "most unique" and "most likely to become the next existential thinker" in high school.

well theres always Dabura to throw into the mix, which really complicates things, because he seems to be an honest to goodness demon, and of course, theres also Majin Buu...

But only Garlick Jr, his minions, Piccolo (and his minions, I guess) referred themselves as being Ma-zoku. None of the other demonical beings in Dragon Ball are called that, not even Dabura.

Even if Piccolo was so vile, that would change him in a way where he made demons born from eggs instead of normal Nameck-sei-jin or having ppls souls wander forever in pain?? Well, Vegeta did say that Nameck-sei-jins were a race with mysterious powers (I guess I could have answered my question).

Aaaaaaaand, there's always that remark (sp?) by Piccolo on the 23rd Tenka-ichi Budoukai in which he wonders why Goku uses some of the same Ma-zoku techniques he does.

Well, it makes plenty of sense to me. The Original Nameless Piccolo rid himself of all evil, and certainly a personification of that evil could be described as a demon. If his other half could become a god, I see no reason he couldn't be a demon. And the Mazoku can simply refer to his offspring.

I don't know how Garlic, et al, are supposed to fit into that, though; maybe they're supposed to be their own, separate demon tribe?

I'd guess Piccolo meant that Gokuu's moves looked like his own, and Gokuu had just finished training under Kami. And since Kami used to be the same person as Piccolo, it would only be natural for them to have similar fighting styles.

I believe Slug's henchmen did.

Yes, they also did, but I was just referring the series.
