A small question on something that might be important, but..

Post by NightBlade » Thu Jan 06, 2005 11:13 pm

Hello there. I know I'm a new guy, and no one knows me, but I love DBZ like you all here and well, I'll just say it. I have stumbled upon a parody comic/manga/whatever named DragonFall, which as far as I know is only available on spanish (if I am wrong, and you people already heard of it, PLEASE tell me right away so I can shut up and go back to my dark corner). Me and a few friends are working on translating them to english, and I know it's gonna take a while, but hey, it's a pretty cool parody, and very well-drawn and funny as hell.
If you are interested, I'll host some images of it so you can judge for yourself. If I'm just talking gibberish, please let me know.
Thanks for your attention :)

Heh... that comic's got some funny stuff. I'd like to see it, myself. :)

Ok, here's a sample. Non-translated of course, but just for shows. It's fairly large, because I don't really do this part of the editing, I'm a translator, and know crap about photoshop or anything.

Hey! I'm originally from Spain, and I love those comics! They were recently adapted to Graphic Novels and my uncle will be buying some for me soon! I can translate:

Freeza: Before I turn you into bird food... allow me to ask one question:
Kuririn: Yes...yes...of course!
Freeza: Aren't I hotter and more handsome now?
*as everyone falls over*
Goku: What's the joke? I don't get it.
Vegeta:Uh...Hey, you! Don't think you're impressing us by puffing yoursef up like the pink panther! Let's see how much more powerful you have become!

BTW, you got the names wrong. Freeza is FRIGO, Krillin is CHIQUIRILÍN (really small guy for those with no understanding of spanish), Goku is SOSÓN (idiot) GOKU, Vegeta is VEGETAL (vegetable...).

Yeah there's tons of cool names:

Soson Goku: "Soson" meaning really dull.

Wilma: Bulma's name is changed to a Flintstones reference

Duende Tarugo: Known in Spain as "Duende Tortuga" originally, tarugo pretty much means "idiot"

Vegetal: of course Vegetable

Chungo-han: Chungo means several things but mostly bad, busted, etc.

Chikrilin: Known as Krilin in Spain, the pun is on a type of Spanish cookie called Chiquilin, and of course the word "chiquito" meaning small

Discolo: Piccolo's name means "unruly"

Dragon Ke-Huron: Known originally as Shenron in Spain, Ke-Huron is like saying "Que Huron!", which means "What an unsociable person!"

Chicha: ChiChi's name is Spanish slang for fat, mainly "rolls" or "love handles"

Frigo: Freeza's name maintains the cold trend since "Frigo" is Ice Cream distributor Good Humor's branch within Spain.

Celulitis: Cell's name... kinda self explanatory...

But there's tons more! I'll pop in and do more later...

I guess you'd make a much better translator. I'm from Chile myself, and these comics were made in Spain...

Doujinshis are great. Did I mention I'm Anti-Yaoi?

Wow, I would loooove to see these translated. Freaking hilarious! I love the name puns and the art style. These were released as graphic novels?? Or just doujinshi?

I've always wondered why Americans don't really bother making fan comics. We're all too lazy and just do it online, I suppose. ;-;

Or they're more strict on copyright laws in America than they are in Spain and particularly Japan.

(After all >.>;; I've heard tales of many HP fansites being closed down by WB or something like that.)

Ah, Dragonfall's fun :mrgreen: I remember seeing scans of it at several sites. Dragonball-Doujinshi has an entire one scanned (it's the end of the 23rd Budoukai and the beginning of dbz) but you gotta be a member to view their stuff.
On hiatus.

Hmm good point. Disney is pretty crazy over that stuff, too. Who knows how Funi feels about it though...

edit: Dragonball-doujinshi is a wonnnnnderful place. All you need to do to be a member is submit fanart or your own doujinshi scans. I'm sure we've all drawn something here or there.

The series was first released in "comic book" fomat at first and then rerelease a few years later in Graphic Novel format. There's a total of 11 GN's including novel #00.

The only place I know that you can get them at online, is and online Spanish store I used to go to in Madrid. I wanted to order from them but shipping to the US is ridi-goddamn-diculously expensive. The books themselves are quite a bargain!

Here's the quick link:

Ooh wow. I can't wrap my mind around the idea of somebody successfully selling fan comics. That is so totally illegal haha. Still, if I had a better understanding of Spanish, I sure wouldn't mind buying them myself. ;-;

I do, more than one fanmade Dragonball Z modification for games such as Quake 3 Arena and Half-Life got shut down by funi even though the modders didn't intend to make any profit out of it, just, bring a DBZ experience to their favourite game, but they wouldn't have it. So yeah. >.>;;

Wow that sucks. I wonder why exactly... maybe it was a legal issue, or they're just dicks like that or... who knows? GEN FUKUNAGA MAYBE?!
