This has got to be some of the worst censoring ever.

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

May I say this is the best thread I've seen in a long time? Thank you everyone who shared those awesome pictures and videos. I've always loved seeing Dragonball and how it is culturally adapted around the world.

"A HOUSE" that is just....fucking...awesome.

Freedom fries was a euphemism for French fries used by some conservatives in the United States as a result of anti-French sentiment in the United States during the international debate over the decision to launch the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
In reaction, all of us normal ordinary people called them dipSh*ts.

And some of that stuff Korea has with Japan goes back more than WWII. Let's say there were a few characters in Samurai Warriors who aren't really liked and still held a grudge over 400 years later.

Is this the actual picture quality of the arabic dub or is it simply recorded from a mobile phone or something-alike. Is there really any need to edit Bulma completely out, could they not have drawn a scarf or something on her covering up her cleavage?
This must really peeve off arabic fans of the series, It's cruel cutting and chopping up precious dragonball z like this.

Have they turned Master Roshi into some saint? What does he do instead of looking at his naughty magazines and videos!!!?? Surely he hasn't been chopped out too!

I did have a bit of a giggle, Yamcha and Krillin were outside a hamburger and doughnut stool, Do they even eat those sorts of foods in the East? They took all that time editing and censoring but then couldn't change the name of the signs. (If they don't have those foods) Personally I have never been that side of the world myself.

How is this even remotely surprising for Arab culture? I'm surprised they even left her in at all considering she does stuff that is illegal over like speak her mind.

Me too, that's why all of my threads are about DBZ dubs from different places in the world. This is the kind of DBZ related topic that really interests me.
Me three! Really, there's few topics I find more interesting than ones about foreign dubs of the Dragon Ball series. More info on Funi's Dragon Box Z would be slightly more interesting than this, but not by too much.

I just love that "A HOUSE" thing they did. I reminds me of something Saban would've done. Now that I think about it, I'm surprised they didn't. Though, if the Evil Empire (AKA 4Kids) dubbed Dragon Ball Z, I'm sure it would be a lot like the Korean dub. They seem to hate Japan, as well. Actually, they also hate English. There's been times when they censored English writing on of things. :/ I cannot comprehend 4Kids.

They blured away the "K ME" in Kame House so now the house is just "A House".

Is this still a common practice?
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
If 4Kids had dubbed DBZ Sean Schemmel would probably had still voiced Goku, King Kai & Nail since he's with them now. Though I do agree with everyone else 4Kids sucks their only decent dub was Pokemon even though it had a lot of censoring done too.

I wouldn't know, but if you do you're Googlin' you'll learn there's a bundle of history between the three nations (wow, what a pun) that is probably best left out of this discussion due to the diressing nature of it all.

Japan invaded Korea and annexed it in 1910, then attempted to completely obliterate Korean culture.

To quote from the wiki:

"Other means of cultural suppression included the method of “altering” public monuments, including several well-known temples, palaces, scripts, memorials, and statues. Songs and poems originally dedicated to Korean Emperors were re-written to adore the Japanese Emperor. Carved monuments underwent alterations to the Chinese characters to delete or change part of their meaning.

Two of the more notorious events are noted. The Sungnyemun, a virtual symbol of Korea, was altered by the addition of large, Shinto-style golden horns near the roofs (later removed by the South Korean government after independence). Gyeongbokgung, a former Korean palace, was demolished and the Japanese General Government Building built in the exact location. The Korean History Compilation Committee confiscated and burned Korean history books.

Many ancient Korean texts that were discovered mentioning Korean military and cultural exploits or Japan's historic inferiority and uncivilized behavior such as Wokou were deleted methodically; in general, the awareness of Korean history among Koreans declined during this period. Japan altered the history to rationalize the occupation of Korea to the international community and the Korean History Compilation Committee appeared to be an extension of that action."

Hideyoshi among others right?
