A coherent plot? Continuity? There are many things that would have made GT better.

Y'know what I just realized would have made GT make a LOT more sense?

If Goku used Super Saiyan more often.

I mean, a lot of the biggest Goku-wanking moments had a similar theme. Goku was shown matching or besting all these powerful opponents --other Super Saiyans, Freeza and Cell, General Rildo (as strong as an unspecified Buu but mostly likely Mr. Buu), and so forth-- in his BASE state.

It had been 15 years since the Majin Buu arc. It'd be a bit of a stretch, but I could see his Super Saiyan form being enough for him to take down Cell, and give a good fight to someone of Mr. Buu's level. By all accounts, he should still need Super Saiyan if he doesn't want even "just" Freeza to squash him like a bug.

Had he been shown as such needing to use even just Super Saiyan level one against these foes, things would seem FAR less unbalanced in his favor. The way it is now, though, it's obvious Toei just abandoned all reason and gave him ungodly power out of nowhere in just his base form.

Definitely. Although at times, his SSJ power makes just as little sense. Everyone else at SSJ can't move Super 17 and inch, but Goku can punch him to the other side of the planet. And it's not even an exaggeration. Are we just to assume that he's that much stronger than everyone in his base form now?

But yeah, using Super Saiyajin and the higher forms more would make a big difference.

Oh, I didn't even bother to take that into consideration. The Super 17 arc as a whole just makes no flippin' sense, and Goku's absurd over-powering is just one of many problems.
