Sean Schemmel. He didn't start out strong, but, as noted by others, he is now the definitive English Goku. His performance in the later seasons, and particularly in the redub, is gold. I am also a huge fan of his Dragon Ball Goku for the 15 or so episodes that he appears. I acknowledge Corlette's talent, but I just prefer Schemmel's performance overall.

I have to say I have no idea which Goku I was listening to when I watched the dub as a teenager. I always thought the US dubs were less nuanced than the Japanese ones but there were moments that, whichever guy it was, they did really get the goofy side of Goku across really well. I just wish I knew which actor it was (if it was indeed just one actor that did all those bits).

I really like MasakoX's, actually, and find that he seems to keep Goku's sillier sides going very well whereas the US dub tended to think in terms of "Now I'm silly Goku... And now I'm serious Goku!" I know there are moments where he is just deadly serious, but there are lots of shades of grey too.

It's weird seeing so many people liking Sean Schemmel's Goku, he get's practically everything about Goku wrong. Peter Kelamis in the Ocean Movies was pretty awesome, then during the series, he was getting kinda lazy... But during the movie he was just so... awesome, he did too much of a dudish voice, but he was almost as intense as Nozawa, not to mention he pronounced Kaioken properly.

Example!

Peter Kelamis's performance from the first three movies, definitely.

For the record I do like Sean. I just think he took so long to develop into the Goku we all know and love. He started really perfecting his performance around the late Boo arc and that's just a little crazy to me.

Peter Kelamis was amazing during the movies. If only the actors had a good voice director (and if the voice director didn't get replaced all the time), The Ocean Group's dub of episodes 123~291 would've been amazing! Also, I think Ian Corlett is good, too. As is MasakoX. Probably more so than Ian Corlett, and about the same as Peter Kelamis. They both really fit the character and bring out both Gokuh's carefree side and his serious side well. I don't remember Ian Corlett's Gokuh too well, but perhaps if I did, I'd like it as much as the other two.

Why has no one picked Chatwin yet?

No but seriously, Schemmel is the best hands down for me.

Sean Schemmel for me. No question.

Sean. I loved Ian but there is not enough from him to think he would finish the whole series as strong as he started. Kirby is boring and every time I hear Peter he sounds like he's playing Rolf from Ed Edd and Eddy.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

1st choice: Kirby Morrow. His voice grew on me while watching Broken Saints.

2nd choice: Ian Corlett. He seemed natural as Goku. And was my top pick until Kirby.

It's actually a hard pick for me. All of the English Son Goku's have felt awkward for me. Ian's is the closest to Masako Nozawa's, but Kelamis has the best screams and emotion. Of course, I have a soft spot for our own MasakoX, but I'd feel bias listing him.

As for Sean? Erm... Well, his performance in Burst Limit was pretty good and he was fantastic in DragonBall, but his voice still doesn't work 100 percent for me. Honestly? If I could recast with a FUNimation actor, I'd go for Todd Haberkorn.

Yeah, Haberkorn would be awesome as Gokû, he can be pretty zaney (FUNimation's Podcast) while also honestly hyperactive (Big Windup)!

No, that was only in the Red Ribbon flashback. :P

and every time he does KAIO-KEN! I was like "Woah, he sounds like Rolf!" Cut to me doing research and what do you know, he is Rolf. Now every time Rolf yells at those crazy Ed boys I picture him screaming "HOW DARE YOU MESS WITH THE SON OF A SHEPARD, KAIO-KEN!!!" :P

Honestly, I liked them all. I like them for the different time periods/stages that Goku was in. It's kinda like his voice matured.

Not only that, but he can just as easily be as serious and threatening as Nozawa. If I ever had to associate an English voice with Goku, it'd be him.

It's just a shame that he only did up to the Namek ark here in the states. :(
I agree with the last sentence. I'm 99.9% sure that Schemmel would have been better in Season 3 if he was imitating Corlett and not Kelamis.

And it's weird because now Schemmel's Goku is like a mixture between Corlett and Kelamis.
