Budokai 2 GC vs PS2
I was just a bit curious what you guys thought of the different versions. Are there any major differences?
I'm mostly wondering, because I don't know which one I should buy. ^^;;

The buttons on the gamecube controller leave something to be desired for games such as Capcom Vs SNK 2, but Budokai2 is definitely not up to that amount of necessary control. The games fighting engine is simple enough to not require much from the gamecube controller.
Even when you have to rotate the analog stick you can always just mash buttons and rotate the C stick instead if the analog is not your cup of tea.
With the simple buttons P K B E and easy acces to all 4 buttons is an awesome experience. The awesome semi-nonexistant loadtimes also leave a great impression on the gamecube player.
Also, I love my damaged Goku and Caped Piccolo

Yeah...the only frustration comes with the analog rotating, which is done much easier with the pad and mashing the buttons. Hell, you can really mash whatever you want, just as long as it's fast enough for you.
Most people prefer the Gamecube setup if you take GameFAQs into account. In my honest opinion, the fact that PS2 let's you set presets on L1, L2, R1, and R2 (maybe even L3 and R3) so you can do easy taunts and transformations gives it a slight advantage over the required button holding you must do on Gamecube.
But as far as a better controller all around, that has to go to Gamecube...the thing just fits like a glove. So comfort wise you're better off on Gamecube, while "feature" wise you may be better off with a Dual Shock.
I think that if you're trying to decide which one to buy, it's performance vs. price if you're buying right now. Gamecube improves upon Budokai 2's graphics and adds some small extras that you may or may not be able to live without. It also annihilates load times making Dragon World somewhat more pleasant of a sit through. So while we could generally say the Gamecube one is better since it had more time to be worked on and is on what is usually accepted as "more advanced" technology, there's also the price factor. If you're buying Budokai on PS2, even if it's new, your odds for finding it 15 dollars and below are really good, while you'll still be paying 30 bucks (or 19.82 at Walmart.com) for the Gamecube version.

I statement I defently agree with.Mugenmidget wrote:Most people prefer the Gamecube setup if you take GameFAQs into account. Anyway the way I view it, it depends on weither or not your interested in the extras that were carried over from the Japanese version of DBZB2. I'm not a 100% sure what all of them are, but I do know that Piccolo's third costume and Goku's third cosume (both seen in DBZB3) are amoung them, so if you want to see Goku wearing his battle damaged costume fight Gohan in his unmasked Saiyaman costume (which I was disapointed to see that wasn't in DBZB3 as it was a favourite of mine in DBZB2), then buy GC DBZB2.

There are the "Cell Games Rules" for World Tournament Mode, which allows you to use Fusion, Potara, and Buu's Absorption. I think there are also a few extra capsules. And the extra outfits for Goku and Piccolo. And, extra difficulties for Dragon World. (Because they don't think Kid Buu is cheap enough yet
)

Because Kaio-Ken just doesn't cut it anymore.
I've just got the GC version, but I haven't played much of the PS2 one... Anyway, here are the extras I've noticed in the GC version:
1-Smaller loading times.
2-Slightly better graphics.
3-Battle Damaged Goku costume and Piccolo with cape and Turban costume.
4-You can select the number of health bars in Duel.
5-Twilight versions of some stages.
6-In Dragon World, some charachters have been changed a bit. For example, Tenshinhan(Tien) has 2 lives, instead of just one.
7-Cell Games Rules for tournament mode.
8-Sparking capsules.
9-You don't need to wish for Bulma's clothes, you may just buy them.(Not sure about this, I've heard that in the PS2 version you need to wish for them, but I haven't played through the entire Dragon World in the PS2 version).
10- 2 new harder difficulties for Dragon World.

The extra's are available in the Japanese version of Budokai 2, along with a Neko Majin Z stage and Kuriiza. That stage is less spectaculair than you think though. You have to fight a number of Saibaiman with Goku and Yamhan. For every defeated Saibaiman a random villain appears on the map. Defeat those and you've won. Neko Majin himself acts as a teleportations space. (a la Popo)Neon Z wrote:I've just got the GC version, but I haven't played much of the PS2 one... If not, then they meant "twilight." You know... evening, just before sunset.

How does the Cell Games Rule work in B2? There's no Cell Games ring in that one which is what's used in B3.

Pedro The Hutt is right. It's just a tournament that allow any capsule to be used, including fusions, because there isn't a Cell Games Arena, and the matches still happen in the Budokai one, there are ring outs, differently from the B3 Cell Games.Xyex wrote:How does the Cell Games Rule work in B2? Thaks guys I prefer the input.
See I have both GC and PS2 though my GC is hooked via Interlace Component video so thiings look uber sharp and colorful. And I would imagine the GC version would have shorter load times.
Oh and another question, I havem't played any of the Budokai games yet but I thought I heard of Gokutan being in one of the games, and I thought I heard it mentioned here in another topic that he's in the GC version of B2. Is that correct?
