Everyone says its not super Saiyan 2 but it looks a lot different from his normal super Saiyan.

What exactly is this form?

It's either a badly drawn Super Saiyan, or just Super Saiyan as an in-between piece of animation, like he's moving or something.

That's Trunks when he oes back to his time at the end of the Cell saga right? It's possibly FPSSJ, or his design just changed with the art style. Either way it's definitely not SSJ2.

I don't think it's moving. That's how it is, and here's a clip from episode 194, where Trunks kills 17 and 18 in his timeline: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AV80l8hDZCo

I always thought with his hair being so long, that's what it looks like. But that's not the case here, because his hair's as short as can be. It must be a really, really horribly drawn SSJ Trunks. (And the episode itself is pretty horrible looking, as well)

No, its like that standing still too. On pg 155 of the viz manga volume 19(DB:35) his hair looks like that standing still. I'm think its just the short hair version of USSJ however no other character's hair changed.

I'd say it's just a design change. Goku and Trunks both have the original style Super Saiyan hair when they meet (you know, the big, tufty, less detailed style), but by the end of the Cell saga the style for both of them was different.

To add to that, if you look at his Super Saiyan hair when we briefly see it as he flies of to fight the androids in the first chapter about his future, it bears more resemblance to to his late Cell saga hair than his hair when he arrived, despite him being younger.

It's his regular Super Saiyan state, but badly drawn. The entire episode's animation wasn't very top-notch, unfortunately.

Yea that was one of my favorite moments in the manga. Hell his whole story line in DBZ was awesome. Seeing his finale drawn so poorly was really a bummer.

Super Saiyajin 1 at 100%. Only Gohan was able to perform SSj to the next second level in the period of show where Future Trunks was.

Guh! Just horribly drawn. His forehead is also three times longer for whatever reason. Comparing to the manga, he should be a regular SSJ right here.

I always thought he was Asecended Super Saiyan/Ultra Super Saiyan 1 when watching that episode cuz he was more muscular and defeated the Androids and Imperfect Cell with ease.

It's definitely Super Saiyan. I don't want to repeat what's already been said, but it's probably the art style or whatever. He is certainly not a Super Saiyan 2, a Super Saiyan 2nd Grade, Super Saiyan 3rd Grade or Full Power Super Saiyan. Regular SSJ.

Personally, I've always thought that 'Ultra' Super Saiyajin had more subtle stages, and we just referred to 2nd and 3rd Grade as such to distinguish what point you had taken it to. It's just beefing up the standard SSJ form, after all.

For example, 3nd grade might be pretty much as far as you can push it before your muscles explode, or something. 2nd grade is like trying to keep a balance between power and speed. To beat Cell and the Androids so easily, I always kind of assumed that he might be bulking himself up slightly, but maybe only as much as necessary, so he didn't waste his stamina needlessly.

I kind of agree that this might just be a case of bad art, mixed with the fact that the art style changed. It looks a lot better in the manga. However, I did always assume he might have been pushing his power at least a bit beyond normal Super Saiyajin.

He doesn't look significantly different over in the manga.

I always just interpreted this as... well... a haircut. To me, it just looks like his hair has been cut and layered in a way that the hair that you see hanging over the top of his head is cut normally, while the underneath is shaved down a little bit (as seen by the shorter hair close to his head/ears/neck when he goes SSJ).

It's a little hard to describe, but it was a pretty popular hairstyle back in middle-school for me... and the Japanese have always had a big thing for bowl-cuts...

Hm, I had always thought that his hair when he went back to the future was the same as when he first arrived; but now that I look, maybe it was more shaved underneath at this point. Is that what you mean, Mike?

I still think it looks better in the manga, but I can't explain why.

It's also worth noting that by the time Cell arrives, Trunks is quite a bit bulkier even in his normal form.
