Would you rather have...

With all these different Dragon Ball releases coming in all the different formats and disc types I was wondering what everyone was wanting to get or if there was an ideal release you were hoping for?

I know most would just like to have the Japanese Dragon Boxes with English Subs but as we all know that not marketable to the mass audience that Dragon Ball has in North America. Being Canadian it's nice being about to have subtitles en français, but due to this being an American release and not Canadian I won't complain that I'm not getting it.

Enough of my little rant... We know there's gonna be 7 and not 2 Dragon Boxes for Z, but my real hope was for a BluRay disc in STANDARD Definition with with a ton of episodes per disc. Now FUNi isn't just going to use BluRay and not use it to it's fullest (1080P) and make us pay more.

So I think I got a little off my own topic but, What would you rather have? FUNi DBoxes or 2 Large TOEI DBoxes. Or an awesome BlueRay box set in the SAME quality as a DVD release?

PS. To the tech people who are more knowledgeable than I on the matter: Is there a guideline where if you publish BluRay discs that they have to be 1080P? Also, if FUNi did make BluRay box in standard def, do we all agree that Mike would take a hiss-fit and forever call them "faux-bluray" discs?

Smaller sets released over a longer period of time makes the releases more affordable. Even if you ultimately end up spending just as much or nearly as much in the long run, justifying buying two sets at the price they would cost is rather difficult, especially if you don't have a lot of spare money for luxuries. But, over time, it's easier to scrounge up a little extra cash and buy a set or two and not worry about spending too much money at once.

I'd prefer to have blu-ray releases at 480p but with a much higher bitrate and therefore higher quality.

Agreed. I would buy a big box set if I could, but I see where you are coming from.

Not to mention that, personally, I find it a lot harder to justify buying a large boxset than smaller ones over time. Especially of a show that's not really a favorite of mine per se, but rather a nostalgia bomb. If you ran out and bought two pricey sets of a show that you hadn't seen for nearly ten years, it would seem a little weird.

I still look forward to the Dragon Boxes, but the initial enthusiasm has died down slightly. Luckily, I acted while Amazon still had that good deal.

Exactly what penguintruth said. It's much, much harder to look at your account/wallet and willingly take out a few hundred dollars for a tv show twice than it is to spent $50-70 a few times every few months. The way it's being sold I could order immediately without guilt, but the price tag that would have been on the two-box style would have been very hard to convince myself into when I know how much I get in my paychecks. It's just more financially sound for FUNi as well because of the same logic.
