Are you an AMV maker?

Post by vershiris » Tue Sep 08, 2009 2:49 pm

So, this is a thread that I really hope will identify the video editors in the Daizex community. After seeing a few topics on the "Fan-Created Works" forum that really showed off many members talents (the most recent being "Kaboom's "Draw Me A What-If" Game" :D), I was eager to see what video editing talents many members have. I'm sure there are many members in the community that make great AMV's, and if you do, please post a reply on the topic and share your projects.

My Projects:

Vershiris: My Youtube channel which I upload my AMV's - www.youtube.com/user/vershiris

WolfClawStudios: My friends (Shinrofugen's ) Youtube channel, which I create AMV's for whenether theres a special occasion - www.youtube.com/user/WolfClawStudios

And this is pretty much the only DragonBall AMV i have on my channel - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBZhtHYcW8A

Thanks for reading, I hope you post some great stuff. :D

Sounds cool, I can't wait to see what people post. I only have two that I'd like to share, but I'm quite proud of 'em. They were both fun and really helped me hone my video editing skillz.

First one is about Piccolo. It's kind of serious but also silly. I don't really like serious stuff, so this is as close as I'll get to it. My goal was to kind of go though Piccolo's life and his experiences through memories as he's training Gohan.

My second one is about... well... BEER! This one was especially fun to make and I experimented a little with "cutouts"(?) I'm not sure what to call it but I cut out images of the characters to overlay on other scenes. It's a fun video and a lot of people say they like it! :)

I read VegettoEX's AMV guide before doing these and it helped a lot, I think. I have made a few more but they're pretty bad and luckily only a couple hundred people saw them before I took them down. AMVs are a fun way to learn more about various programs and its easy to lose track of time while I'm making one. It's a lot of fun.

Wow that's a pretty good one. Lots of flashy effects. It must have taken a while. You should do some more Dragon Ball AMVs. 8) If you do it'd be cool to see one with some sort of overarching theme or story.

Well, I suck in making AMVs. I'm a noob in this genre and I suck as Oolong's transformations.

I did one for DBKai, and it recieved totally negative opinions ((I deleted it not knowing that I can make it private -_-))...

My second one was my first musical, and I did average with the syncing...

I have yet to make a video with super cool special effects.

I was planning to make two parody AMV's related to Dragon Ball and JTTW... but FUNimation threw a pie on our faces by not including Region 2 coding for their Remastered Season 1.

I guess so, but I didn't do the "masking" in Sony Vegas. I did it in a backwards round-about way that works fine for me. Maybe one day I'll learn how to do it correctly.

Well, I am a AMV maker, and have made lots of Dragonball related ones, although I rather make them of other animes or movies at the moment.
I removed all my vids at Youtube, and the plan is to upload them at another site.

Kind of, I've really only done one.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_v2nj2BrjI

(Most of this is me being lazy and wanting to have the info, tidbits in here):
Holy crap, it must suck right, it is an AMV made in Windows Movie Maker. Well, I tried to make one that didn't suck. But, that's your judgment. It takes clips from Budokai 2 and 3's Opening, plus Saga's opening. I tried to make what was on the screen fit with the beat of the music. The only thing that'll probably stand out is the fact that the "Dragon Ball Z" logo is from CHA-LA-HEAD-CHA-LA's animation which is way older. The is an old and my only AMV, I've done so far.

I also threw in a few visual jokes/cues. Like at about 0:31 you hear "Mirai" when Future Trunks is diving for the Dragon Ball. Also at the very end when Goku and Vegeta fuse into Vegetto, comparing it to the Death Note opening, it seems like it's making Vegetto seem like a God. But that's up to you.

I'm good at making AMV's (at least I like to think I am) the only problem is that I don’t have any good software; the only thing I have is WMM.

WMM can be a great program when you get good enough at it.

HAHAHAHA! Great program!? Great programs don't crash every time it's booted. Great programs are able to handle more than two or three codecs. Great programs have multiple video and audio layers. As someone who used Windows Movie Maker for years before converting to Vegas, I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt, Windows Movie Maker is a fucking horrible program. The only thing it has going for it is that it's bundled with the OS.

A 'pimp your AMVs thread?' Neat!

I've been dabbling in AMV-making for the last couple years, but my releases are few and far between. First off, I have this:

Indifference Prince, which was little more than me experimenting with something better than Windows Movie Maker.

Eventually, after enough further practice, I cranked out this little gem:

Enter the Monkey, a trailer using the audio from Kung Pow: Enter the Fist's trailer and footage from Path to Power. It's over two years old now, but I'm still proud of it.

And finally, for the past half-a-year or so, I've been slowly but surely working on a much bigger project, called Next Dimension. It's a long "montage" video in the style of the AMV Hell series, except it's all-DragonBall. I've put up several "preview" clips:

Real Live Robot
1 POINT 21 GIGAWATTS
Prepare To Die

(Somehow the audio in that last one ended up really quiet, sorry)

Project: Next Dimension will be done in about a month, or a little less if things go well.

I've always wanted to try making a DB AMV to one of the many image songs, but I dunno if it helps to know what the song is actually about or not...

You are right, but looking at the end result, many videos made with Sony Vegas may be good, but they give you seizures and hurt your eyes with all the flashing and 10 different scenes pushed into one screen for your eyes to watch and become tired of.
At least Movie Maker makes it simple, and my favorite AMVs are actually made of that program. Why? 'Cause it makes the whole damn process that more challeging.
Sony Vegas is just, like clickety-click-click-done.
But unfortunately, most bad musicvideos are made with Movie Maker, since it's the beginner's tool, but you cannot say that it's a bad tool, since there are people who still kick Adobe Photoshop people's work with using MS Paint.
"It isn't the sword, but the man behind it who decides it's strength."

But in the end, Movie Maker is an inferior product in that it has problems with codecs and crashes all the time.
