Where Can One Buy the Dutch English Dub?

Post by linkdude20002001 » Fri Sep 11, 2009 3:52 pm

I've been looking all over, but I'm having a hard time finding the Dutch DVDs. So, if any one knows where I can buy them, please let me know!

For those that don't know, the Dutch English dub is the one that's often called the "UK dub", "Bridge dub", or "Big Green dub". Six movies were released in the Netherlands in 2001 by Bridge Entertainment Group, dubbed in English with Dutch subtitles. In 2002, they released two more movies, and in 2003, the two TV specials and another movie was released. Also in 2003, the first three movies that were released in the Netherlands were released in the UK by Warner Vision International. Here's a Dutch trailer for the Strongest Guy in the World.

Here are what movies (and TV specials) were released the Netherlands. Links are just pictures.

Movie 1: Super Battle in the World (Movie 3)
Movie 2: The Strongest Guy in the World (Movie 2)
Movie 3: Super Saiyan, Goku (Movie 4)
Movie 4: Super Rivals (Movie 5)
Movie 5: Fight! 10 Billion Power Warriors (Movie 6)
Movie 6: Super Battle of the Three Super Saiyans (Movie 7)
Movie 7: The Burning Battles (Movie 8)
Movie 8: Super Guy in the Galaxy (Movie 9)
Movie 9: The Father of Goku (TVSP 1)
Movie 10: Gohan and Trunks (TVSP 2)
Movie 11: In Pursuit of Garlic (Movie 1)

And these movie were released in the UK (released in this order). Links are to Amazon UK's listing for each movie.

Super Saiya Son Goku (Movie 4)
Super Battle in the World (Movie 3)
The Strongest Guy in the World (Movie 2)

You could try www.marktplaats.nl.
Some search results I got for you.
1 2 3
I actually bought the first movie of this version on VHS a couple of years ago on a flea market. Wanted to send it to Mike but I can't find it anymore.
Anyway, hope this helps a bit.

Wow, we had commercials of those?

Anyway, I do know they were on sale here in stores for quite some years, but I only saw VHS tapes. The last few years they were all on sale and very cheap to get. They were all for sale in toystores but not any more. I'm assuming you're looking for them online anyway...

Try Marktplaats. It's kind of the Dutch Ebay. I found the following on there;

Super Battle in the World
Supersaiyan Goku
Three movies
The strongest guy in the world

Only 2 euros each... I have no clue if they do international shipping though. You should just ask.
Also, don't trust the covers... I own movie 6 of this series, and the cover showed a screenshot of movie 5. :?

EDIT: Awww Son Wukong beat me to it  :x

Thanks, you guys. ^_^ I hope they ship internationally (unlike Yahoo! Auctions Japan  ). Do you know if any other movies were released (VHS or DVD)? I'd love to get the Dragon Ball ones.

Is the "6" on the back and front of the box the rating? Like "six and up"? And what do the weird symbols mean (the spider and the fist)?

Those are Dutch movie ratings. A '6' does indeed mean 'six and up', a spider means 'possible scary content' and a fist means 'content with violence'.

11 DVD's were released over here in The Netherlands, in the order that you (linkdude20002001) posted.
Movie 1 (In Pursuit of Garlic) was the last DVD released, the first 8 have also been released on VHS.

They're PEGI-ratings, the European equivalent of the American ERSB. You can look up the symbols at their homepage for further informaton.

Well, Bridge also released 8 DVD's with three episodes each covering the first 24 episodes of the Saiyan Saga.
They never released episodes 25 and 26, they could have just put 4 episodes on the last two DVD's, but noooo...

At least 24 episodes were released. The dub on the DVDs was the early Funimation dub from back when they were using The Ocean Group for their dubbing.

Aw... SS Kakarot beat me to it.

What? But I thought they released 13... :? Maybe that why I can't find the box art for 12 and 13...

Until 2005, the only dub for the first 67 (53) episodes was the one using The Ocean Group. For the later parts, I heard that the TV stations in the Netherlands would air BOTH dubs and would switch back and forth quite randomly.

Good luck finding In Pursuit of Garlic. I can't seem to find ANY of the later movies.

Hm, wow, I had completely forgotten but I actually own a DVD of the series by Bridge Kids. It has the first three episodes, ocean dub. I remember being so disappointed when I got this for my birthday a few years back.
It actually has an advertizement for the movies inside. Huh. I should look at my stuff more often :/

But according to my DVD they released a total of 4(!) DVD's of the series. These are;

1. Arrival of Raditz (I own this one)
2. Goku's unusual journey
3. Trouble on Arlia
4. Escape from Piccolo

Only three episodes per DVD, english dub, dutch subtitles.

Boy, were we lucky or what?

The DVDs for the episodes are the same as the ones Geneon (Pioneer) released in the US.

Well... More so than the UK. At least you got SOME DVDs. Still, it's very sad indeed. I have a question for you, though. Does anywhere on the DVD, the case, or the episode credits, make mention of Funimation or The Ocean Group?

RoarkVegeta: Yeah, ocean dub. You know, with Roshi drinking blue beer.

linkdude20002001: Let's see... No, no mention whatsoever. I only see the following credits:

AB International Distribution
Bridge Pictures (Bridge Entertainment Group)
Bird Studio/Shuelsha (yes, they spelled it with an L)/Toei Animation 1990.
