Kunzait_83, I think you're a great person. You put a lot of time, effort, and thought into your posts and it's a real treat to read them. You certainly stand out as a very distinct member here and I respect the hell out of you.

But god dammit your avatars are fucking disturbing. I don't like them one bit.

Um...my horror movie icon seems pretty lame now...

but it's Count Magnus Lee from Vampire Hunter D, if anyone cares. I dunno why I changed it. Just an urge.
To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.

Oh dude... of COURSE the first one is better. By a quantum leap. The first one's an absolute masterpiece of the horror genre and probably had one of the single most profound effects on me when I was little of any movie I saw back then short of Taxi Driver.

However... just because the second one lacks the character depth and tragically beautiful artistry of the original does NOT in any way mean that it still wasn't heaps of fun as a splatter movie unto itself. Cause it was. It's in no way even approaching the level of depth and raw emotional power that the first one embodies brilliantly, but it's still a great romp for self-respecting fan of visceral body-horror, and there's any number of magnificent pieces of exquisite gore that are absolutely avatar worthy. Anything from the guard whose head is squished into mushy cranial chunks under the elevator to the absolute, beautifully horrific ruin that Bartok’s body becomes at the end when his genes get spliced in the telepod. I just picked the corrosive face melt because it’s a personal favorite and makes for an especially good avatar.

But regardless yeah, the shotgun scene you mentioned at the end of the first film is absolutely wonderful dramatically, and hits an especially personal nerve for me (as did the general themes of the movie as a whole). No matter how many times I’ve seen that movie (and it’s been a LOT more than 20 years later), it still moves me to tears to this day. Utterly fantastic.

So yeah the first one’s the real deal, a true cinematic classic, whereas the second one doesn't pretend to be anything other than a fun ride for hardcore horror/gore dorks.
For me, the sole cause for me liking "The Fly" over "The Fly II" is Jeff Goldblum's wonderful performance as the overly-excited scientist that becomes the victim of his own creation.
And you've got to love his museum with his own body parts that he made as they were falling off one by one. That scene was the epitome of black humor and Jeff Goldblum delivered it so well.

To be on topic, I found my avatar at the avatar thread at the Fan Works section.
I chose it because of that I like Yamcha and also his back luck in the series. The expression he has, together with the small fart showing are just beautifully composed.

New avatar ^^ Same character from the same doujin series, it's just that the fuzzy jpegy quality and awkward borders on my own one were getting on my nerves so I picked a new image.

Y'know, I wasn't looking at your avatar correctly at first...

I first thought the "skull" was just a red gooey mass that was facing the screen... Then I looked again and saw it was indeed a skull looking off to the side...

This always happens to me! It happened another time in Super Bases Loaded where I incorrectly saw the "Weasels" team mascot as a melting zombie head, when it was in fact a weasel...

I also incorrectly saw all of the sprites in Cave Story at first, but I wasn't alone in that I don't think...

Okay, so I had a hard time picking, but I think I may have finally done it Eureka 7!!!!

The image in my avatar is a colored and extensively doctored version of this panel from one of the latest Slayers mangas "Falces Hourglass".

I also had trouble deciding between this one:
