FUNimation's YouTube page is also celebrating the occasion with a neat new DragonBall background!

I thought the exact same thing. I've gone to Walmart for every single season set release so far, never had a single problem. Now I'm not even sure if I'm going to get it anymore seeing as how the closest Best Buy or a store similiar to it is 40 miles away, and as much as I love Dragon Ball it's almost not worth it.

I'm happy with this & my GT Season Sets, and the upcoming Dragon Boxes for Z.

I personally don't feel the need to triple-dip on DB again for the Dragon Boxes. The only reason I'm doing so for Z is because I want that series in 4:3, and to be done with the widescreen issue.

Well, no one is asking you to triple-dip. You don't have to buy remastered DB boxsets right away. You could just wait to see if Funimation releases the Dragon box sets for Dragonball.

One thing that does annoy me, now that I'm looking at comparisons. They did chop off a lot a picture from the bottom.

In one of the scenes were Bulma is brushing her teeth. In episode 2. They literally cropped away the whole shelf under the mirror. There is no shelf. Now that just really annoys me.

In the R2J screen shot, you can see the whole shelf under it plus even slightly more. It looks a lot more than slightly zoomed in.

You're acting like Funi did this on purpose. Toei probably gave them zoomed in masters. If they straight up cropped it, it'd be in widescreen.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

I don't think the slight zoom-in is worth worrying about. It's not like it's been purposely cropped like the Z sets.

Well, it bothers me. I just want the best version possible. And it doesn't look slight. It looks like 20% was cropped off. How much was cropped off in Z?

Well, my point is, people should hold on and wait before they rush out and buy these sets. Wait to see if Funimation will release a Dragonbox. Then they can get something that is more complete.

Walmart carries the product on their website and if you do Site-to-store, you get free shipping. Just have the set shipped to your local Walmart and go pick it up when they send you an email. You can do this with practically anything they don't carry in stores. Like One Piece DVDs, for example.

That sounds like a good idea, but I've been wondering if I should just order it through Rightstuf, plus it's only $30 plus shipping this week.

Why would we wait? We have no guarantee or even hint that there will be FUNiBoxes for DragonBall, and these are possibly the best DVD releases for it we've had so far. If anything, we should all be buying these to show support for it.

Well, as how that guy put it. So you don't have to triple-drip. Why wouldn't you wait. Do you think if you don't buy them, then they are going to be sold out?

You would wait so you don't have to buy something again, and then having to end up selling your Dragonball Season sets for the Dragonball Dragonbox sets. That is why you would wait.

Well, I think people are figuring this wrong. I personally believe that our chances for FUNiBoxes for DB or GT depends not on the sales of their season sets, but how well the Z boxes do.

I'm glad that there is a good version for those who don't own these episodes now, but I'm not gonna buy DB for the third time unless its a FUNiBox (I got the Madman sets and the JP DBox). Again, I'm glad people can get it now, but I'll hold out for the best we can get.

I don't mind selling off earlier purchases if something better comes along. It's what I did with my Z movie singles as the Double Features were coming out, it's what I'll be doing with my Z Season Sets for the FuniBoxes, it's what I'll be doing with my couple DB singles and movies for any remastered equivalents, and I'll gladly keep doing it.

I'd rather have to replace something than end up missing out because I just waited for some future mystery-release. If that never comes out, then what happens? A few years down the line, and the previous, perfectly-good releases may have become rarer and harder to find.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

That's why I often got on guys who complained about the season sets to why they didn't buy the original releases (post season 2) in the first place. It's understandable for the teens, but the adults have no real excuse, including me who didn't get all the series' original dvds due to long times of unemployment.

Well, for the most part I agree. I think it's fine to get these sets if you simply want Dragon Ball. In a worst case scenario, they served a purpose of allowing you to watch Dragon Ball in a pretty darn nice format. I plan to buy them myself, at some point despite a potential Dragon Box release.

On the other hand, I don't think these sets will go anywhere but down as time goes on, to a point. Look at the season sets for DBZ and those cheap suckers for those who'd bypass the Dragon Box. The people who wait will generally have a cheaper option if anything else isn't announced after the sets are all released, and these DVDs will most likely be produced for at least another 5 good years or so. I think it's a matter of personal patience.
I think I'll be buying assorted Dragon Ball things for the rest of my life.

  Have to ask, now, if anyone else watched the dub of episode 1, am I the only one who started laughing big time at Goku's line, "What do I care about your dirty old fanny?"

I got the set at a local Hastings. This is my first time watching these first 13 episodes uncut (and I've never read the whole manga) and it's a real treat. There's lots of stuff I didn't know about before and a bunch that I forgot.

I have a question though. In the fourth episode, Goku says that he can sense the people in the village. We know that sensing ki isn't a natural ability, so is this something Gohan taught Goku? I guess we'll never really know the depths of Goku's training, but it had to be pretty intense. I forgot exactly how strong he was when the series started. Compared to everybody else he's a freakin' tank.

Damn, you guys are making me jealous. My wallet, which contained $143, was stolen, and I was planning on buying this. (My mom graciously decided to buy the Dragon Box for me since I pre-ordered it, though). When I get showered with money on my 17th birthday, which is in two months, I'll try to get this and Season 2.

Wow that sucks dude. I never carry that much on me. Hopefully your wallet will be recovered.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

There's an interesting post about the development of Goku's ki sensing abilities here. He figures that Goku's able to track the villagers down using their scent, which makes sense and is consistent with the animalistic light in which Goku's portrayed early on.
