Dragonball and Relationships.

I'm introducing my girlfriend to the show through Funi's season one set right now. I'm a pretty normal guy and don't have too many "super nerd" interests and even Dragonball is something I typically hide from everybody, but shes aware I'm a huge fan of the show and gives me shit about it all the time, but one night I brought over the set and was like, "hey I just got this in the mail and I kinda wanted to watch a couple episodes."

I turned on the dub track(for her sake, really, I figured throwing on subtitles for someone who's never really watched anime before might make them lose interest, that and the dub for Dragonball is not that bad). and we watched a couple episodes and she was bewildered at how the show completely broke the stereotype she had(a bunch of aliens in spandex grunting and talking about power levels) and loved the perverted humor and adorableness of turtle, puar, etc.

We're now well into the first Tenkaichi Budokai and she's completely hooked, always wanting to watch one more episode before we go to bed. It's pretty great because I never really dreamed of sharing my nerd love of Dragonball with somebody else and I was wondering about other people on this forum who are in relationships were their passion for Dragonball is shared.

I guess I could see it being more common if both people in the relationship were into anime in general but that really describes neither of us. My main interests are music and film and hers are more or less in that same vein. I've had quite a few girlfriends over the years and this is the first I've worked up the courage to openly discuss it with and it's been a resounding success.

That, and holy shit is it awesome to watch the show with someone who's never seen it before and has no idea what's going to happen next. I'm somewhat living vicariously through her. It's a real treat.

Yes, when I was kid, I use to have tons of friends in the neighborhood that loved DBZ. And I actually taped it for them because they didn't have cable TV. And I would go over there and we would watch the Saiya-jin saga through the Freeza saga. They loved it. I wish it was the same way now, but I moved out. No more anime :'( with friends.

See it is more fun watching a anime with someone else than it is by yourself. I don't know what it's like to have a girl friend, but just any friend will do.

This has nothing to do with a relationship, but it's on the topic of introducing the cartoon to other people and living vicariously through them.

I saw the two Trimark/Lionsgate DVDs of Dragon Ball at work and I quickly snatched them up. It's a pretty terrible dub and the music sucks, but it's edited and I wanted to introduce my little brothers to Dragon Ball. They can't very well be seeing Goku jumping around with his peepee hanging out, or Bulma showing Roshi her coochie with blood spewing out of his nose. But other than those scenes it's a perfectly suitable show. We watched some episodes together and they like it. They pretend to do Kamehamehas outside (they keep saying Hamehameha and I have to correct them

). I let them watch some Z-movies previously and they keep asking when Piccolo and Trunks will show up. They don't understand how long the series is.

She's kind of a comics/animation fan to begin with, though. She reads a decent amount of manga, sometimes she'll read American graphic novels (like my Batman and TMNT stuff), and she watches some anime and a lot of cartoons. She's mostly into Invader Zim, Thundercats, Hajime No Ippo, Detecive Conan, Batman: The Brave and the Bold and Batman: The Animated Series. Except for the Batman stuff, I like that stuff but I'm not fanatical about it. And with her she likes stuff like TMNT, Dragonball, etc. but she isn't fanatical over it like I am.

So, while some could say I really lucked out, I kinda went for someone who was already into animation and comics in the first place so it's not like it was hard for me to get her to read Dragonball manga and watch Dragonball anime in Japanese."

I've gotten my girlfriend into Dragonball via the manga. She absolutely loves it, for all the reasons I do.

Not so sure if she'll like the Z portion, as she's really loving the comedy, but we'll see as we go on, won't we?
It's cool for me too, as she actually enjoys buying me Dragonball related gifts now, such as a giant Goku plush.

I had a girlfriend who liked Dragonball, but wasn't a die hard fan or anything. And my most recent Girlfriend, Ex now, when she saw my collection referred to it as "mint".

Well, in America we say things are in MINT condition when they are new/like-new.

Aw man, a Dragonball loving boyfriend would be so completely awesome

Anybody I end up with would at least have to tolerate it, but loving it? such a cool thought.

On the other subject, I don't think I've ever really gotten someone new into the show. I mean I've lived -with- other people as we were all experiencing the it for the first time, and after watching a lot of it I met other people who knew about as much as I did. I have a friend who I'm hoping to get into the show when we finally get to hang out, so maybe that'll work out ^^

It's actually kind of funny because I've seen the show so much that I'm used to pre-teen cock showing up on the screen every once in awhile, but it did take her by surprise in a "wtflol" sort of way.

and yeah, thanks, we're now trying to fill the gap of Dragonball(we finished the first boxset last night) with Curb Your Enthusiasm right now, but I think she's looking forward to me picking up "season two" even more than I am. "Just one more episode!" is all I kept hearing.

My ex Fiancee referred to the show as a "Childrens Program" And I wanted to literally say, GTFO of my house. I didn't, the break up after I found out she dropped out of high school. Then I literally said leave and get the fuck out.

No one except my friends have seen Dragon Ball uncut, my family never saw any of the Japanese R2s only saw what aired on cartoon network and ytv.
